Just announced on the Direct
honestly doesn't shock me as much the 3DS version is probably eaiser to make and cost less which means its much closer to finish and they probably don't want to have an finish game unrelease for several months
So they will have a huge draught again until winter and the 3DS version will roam alone, potentially snagging sales and impact from the Wii U version. I don't understand their thought process in this decision at all. The 3DS version could potentially do really well though and along with MK, it will be highest selling console this summer, in all likelihood.
I was skeptical about how having two versions would help the Wii U and now this just crushed the notion of it getting a huge boost besides the regular Christmas one. Well at least Nintendo knows where they'll be getting their SSB sales from.
On the bright side both versions of the game are releasing in 2014 and looking at the Direct it's looking very promising.
So will the 3DS version cannibalize the WiiU more than people thought?
What a bizzare choice. The only reasoning I can think of is that they're unsure that the 3DS version will sell while they are certain the WiiU version will, so they're giving it every opportunity they can.
In which case... I think this was probably the wrong call to make.
