Here's the lo-down. Vita DOES NOT have massive killer-ap titles like Mario Kart, Smash Bros., or a major HD Zelda (down the road) coming out. Those three games alone, in succession, should put Wii U over Vita by the end of 2014. What's the difference between last year and this? Games like those. Period.

Here's the word on the street. The Vita is selling about 70k a week. It has a 2 million lead. All things remaining roughtly the same, the lead will be about 2.2 mil by the time MK8 comes out. After it comes comes out the WiiU would need to 100k more than the Vita every week to close that gap by Christmas. That means the WiiU needs a new baseline of 170k weekly from it's current 40k.

Good luck with that.

Erm, Period?

Yeeeaaaahhhhhhh!

so it would have to sell more that four times what its selling right now to have a chance. DAMN when you put it like that...

XOne will pass them first. Wii U vs Vita is another thing, more similar to PS3 vs 360. PS3 usually outsould 360 during the year and 360 got the Hollydays. Wii U has more blockbusters coming while Vita has a more stable Japanese market. These two will end pretty much close in sales with One way ahead.

Provided the Oled version is still in store

Probably won't. If I'm correct, they stopped manufacturing the OLED version in February. If you want one, it's now or you will need to get an used one later. The OLED screen is gorgeous, but I don't know if I wouldn't prefer an OLED one instead of the LCD model, the extra 1 hour of battery in the newer model plus the micro-USB charger is really nice (and I say that as owner of an OLED model).

XB1 will pass WiiU around September time. Vita will remain its lead over WiiU for at least another 2 years as well.

WiiU sells around 120k a month, XB1 sells around 300~, it won't take long.

Wii U already had price cuts and has a software library. X1 still is expensive and the library is still weak. I expect both PS4 and One to increase it's sales performance so maybe One can do it even earlier.

I think we has to wait until E3. But I'm sure Sony won't support the Vita so much so I think X One and Wii U will pass the Vita this year. And after E3 we can say who will pass who in the fight between Xbox and Wii. Yeah, I know you might think Microsoft is doing a better job but with Sony doing so great that's the last bit of a console war I enjoy^^

I don't hate Microsoft, I don't hate PC,
I don't prefer Sony, I don't prefer Nintendo.
...Ok, I love Nintendo but this is something about tolerance, ok?

I'm a gamer with one of the greatest hobbies and I want to share this greatness with everyone.

Unless the trend is overturned, the gap is actually growing. Surely Wii U will eventually do better, but why shouldn't Vita too?

Well xone has an unannounced price drop, so it will likely surpass Wii U soon.

What in the world is with people saying Wii U hasn't got a chance to pass the PSVita? What do you actually think the PSV is going to sell in the long run? This year? Is this just based off the recent success of the PSV in Japan?

@bolded: Probably, but people are also saying that it depends on MK8. If it takes off as it should then Wii U will obviously pass the Vita. MK8 is the "x-factor". No one really knows what type of impact will it have on the Wii U.

Mario Kart isn't the only thing that would help the Wii U. It's a major factor, but not the only one.

True, but Mario Kart has always been a major system seller for Nintendo. At least the sales are always great from what VGC says. And with the Wii U's struggles and the fact that the Vita keeps on increasing the gap people are bound to be skeptical. Japan has been a steady market for the Vita and that doesn't appear to be changing anytime soon whereas the Wii U hasn't really been a big hitter anywhere. It's hard to honestly say how these consoles will perform for the rest of the year without seeing what happens this E3. This E3 will be massive and will have a huge impact on sales like the previous one did.
