Forums - Sales Discussion - XboxOne, WIi U, PSVita. Who will pass who?

Here's the lo-down. Vita DOES NOT have massive killer-ap titles like Mario Kart, Smash Bros., or a major HD Zelda (down the road) coming out. Those three games alone, in succession, should put Wii U over Vita by the end of 2014. What's the difference between last year and this? Games like those. Period.

Here's the word on the street. The Vita is selling about 70k a week. It has a 2 million lead. All things remaining roughtly the same, the lead will be about 2.2 mil by the time MK8 comes out. After it comes comes out the WiiU would need to 100k more than the Vita every week to close that gap by Christmas. That means the WiiU needs a new baseline of 170k weekly from it's current 40k.

Good luck with that.

Erm, Period?

Yeeeaaaahhhhhhh!

Xbox One will surpass both eventually but neither this year. Even if X1 baseline is higher than it was before and was say 80k a week, it would take about 24 weeks to overtake Wii U if the Wii U sold zero units. Obviously there are some things that are going to or could happen, like an official worldwide price cut and launching in tier two territories, but the fact that Wii U has MK8, Smash and Hyrule Warriors should keep it ahead of X1 for this year.

So, I would expect X1 to make small gains on Wii U and Vita until the holidays where it will massively cut down the gap but not quite enough to overtake either until 2015.

Except no wiiu exclusive has has any big effect on hardware to expect much out of MK8, Smash and Hyruleis is really wishfull thinking.  Whiel TF has proven to move some units that and a price cut, but even a cut didnt help wiiu much.  Lets no forrget Watch Dogs Destiny ACUnity and plenty other 3rd party games are coming to X1 and not wiiu and will likely help out the X1 sales casue.

To many on here forget or discredit just how utterly important 3rd party games are to console sales.  X1 has them wiiu does not.

Pikmin 3 doubled hardware sales in Japan and caused a 79% increase in hardware sales in the US.  Windwaker HD led to a 685% in hardware sales in the UK.  Neither are as big as Mario Kart, and it may be a short term boost but Wii U hardware will see significant increase for a few weeks when that game launches.  And like I said, at it's current rate, Xbox One will take until late in the year to surpass Wii U even if Nintendo's system sells nothing.

And yes, third party support is important, and is one of the main reasons that X1 will undoubtedly overtake Wii U, but in my opinion not this year.  Also, while there are plenty of other third party games coming, out of the ones you mentuoned neither Watch Dogs or Destiny will give any kind of sizeable boost to X1 sales given that Sony has exclusive marketing deals, betas and bundles with those IPs.

Its easy to have a huge boost when you're selling 20-40k a week worldwide.

Plus the Wii U was selling less than 1000 units in UK. That "huge boost" made HW sales end up less than 5000

XB1 will pass them both.

A boost is a boost, I wasn't going to look around and try to find out how every big game increased hardware sales in every country, but I think it's safe to assume most if not all other territories saw hardware increases when those games I mentioned launched.  Wii U getting some hardware boosts from software was my secondary point anyway.  My primary point was that at it's  current rate and without Wii U selling a single unit, Xbox One wouldn't overtake Wii U for another six months.  No one has responded to that yet.

Which is why most people are either saying December 2014 or early 2015

Most people include me.  I said in my original comment I thought Xbox One would close the gap slowly for a while and then massively cut Wii U's lead around the holiday season, but not quite managing to overtake it before the new year.

Makes sense.

XB1 will pass WiiU around September time. Vita will remain its lead over WiiU for at least another 2 years as well.

WiiU sells around 120k a month, XB1 sells around 300~, it won't take long.

Vita have much killer up in Japan... Wii U MK8, and Smash Bros...so, for me XO don't sorpassed Vita and Wii U this year, maybe never, but it is impossible to say.
For now I say my predictions for 31 DIC 2014:
PSVita and Wii U: 12-13 milion
XO: 8-9 milion

As I remember correctly... WiiU has 2 major games coming out and the Vita doesn't have anything close to that so if the wiiU doesn't pass the vita by the end of holiday 2014, I will buy a vita and never sell it ever again! (Provided the Oled version is still in store)

X1 also has a good chance of passing the wiiU, I just don't know when... I was thinking maybe during TitanFall but that didn't do it so maybe during Watch_Dogs but I feel like that might push for ps4 sales than X1 so idk, we will see

so you're buying a handheld based on what major of the market wants? pity
