Full definition on merriam webster says "a person who is trained or skilled in exercises, sports, or games requiring physical strength, agility, or stamina"

So, still no.*

* Unless it's World Class Track Meet.

You spelled "autism" wrong.

The word is more related to sports which requires a physical effort with a few exceptions. I do think for pro gamers the term wouldn't be correct but certainly they are similar with the others. Competitiveness, difficult, effort is there for both cases.

Less athlete, more game-show contestant.

Even an eating competition requires more physical ability. Are professional eaters athletes? Next thing you know, kids in spelling bees are called "athletes" too.

no

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

I only have two. You're hogging them all!

I consider esports too different to be compared to other sports, so I don't consider them to be "athletes".

But I guess the U.S. does :P http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/196195/US_recognizes_eSports_players_as_professional_athletes.php
