Off those screens looks similar in quality to ModNation Racer. But that's a bad way to compare, must see direct feed before one can really pass judgement.

Modnation is only 30fps, with jarring drops below. Plus it's got nothing on MK8's lighting.

It can be done on a PS3.

Where's PS3 going to get an extra 500MB of RAM? Do they sell an expansion pack now, like with the N64? :p

Just to correct here, the ps3 has 256mb for video and 256mb for the system. Wich is the same as saying 256mb for games and 256mb for the operative system.

Wow no no no no. Icstats was correct. The PS3 only uses about 50MB for the OS.

Your computer is the same way. You have maybe 8GB of system ram, but your OS is only taking a small chunk of that.

Are you sure any of that remaining RAM is used for games?

But then again you are contradcting yourself there. He said the PS3 has 512MB of RAM for games (not specifically but thats what he tried to say). We know that at least 50MB arent.

edit: alright i investigated the issue a bit more. The OS used to be 120MB but was later reduced to 52MB to free extra memory for developers. So, i guess games on the PS3 use 460MB. Thats the true available RAM for games... unless anymore is reserved for any other purposes.

my WiiU has been not been hooked up to my TV since last May. This game will change that. Looks soooo fun, that is they key thing, forget about the teraflops and polygons the game just looks fun. I knew being the PS4/WiiU combo owner was the right choice.

Forget Titanfall this is the must have exclusive. I can wait for CoD 2014 for my shooter fix.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Beautiful looking game. For people saying its merely an artistic showcase, if you were to remove the advanced bloom effects, soft shadows, glossy and specular highlights from the equation it wouldnt look nearly as impressive. This game is a perfect marriage between art and tech.

For those saying this proves the Wii U is next gen where power is concerned, it doesnt really. It proves the Wii U can have beautiful looking games, especially those of a stylised artstyle.

Always thought MarioKart was about gameplay. At least to me that is.

You will be dismissed, because you're comparing off-screen to onscreen.

Does that change the technology used in the game?  No.

You should explain how that technology works, and why it is less taxing on the console than other technologies, and how you can tell Mario Mart 8 is using it. And you shouldn't use GTA V as a comparison, because I'm pretty sure that game isn't locked at 60 fps even during 2-player splitscreen, which it doesn't have. You have to compare like-for-like. Then people will listen.

Let's do that in reverse now shall we.

People claiming that Mario Kart 8 is such a technically advanced game should come forward and explain what makes it so advanced that it matches everything released so far on other 8th gen consoles (as many of you are claiming). And why this could never be achieved on 7th gen consoles. Tell us how that technology works, and why it is so more taxing on the console than other technologies, and how you can tell Mario Kart 8 is using it.

I'm sure it will be very insightful. ¬_¬

Not a knock on the game. Some of you are mistaking beautiful graphics with technical achievements, and are being unreasonably dense about it. It's only fair that you come forward and explain why you believe this game is such a powerhouse compared to anything else, and not just an artistically beautiful directed game.

Man it's great been a WiiU owner, Super Mario 3D World, DKC:TF (best platformer this gen and won't be beaten), MK8, SSB, Bayonetta2 and X coming on top of an already good library. WiiU got no games, you must be smoking something good.

To be fair, there's the extra 500MB of RAM and its newer GPU features; it does seem likely to me that a showcase game would utilize these to some degree.

And that explains the graphics technology how? A bigger pool of RAM doesn't mean it uses graphics features not possible on the other consoles.

So the game is likely more advanced. But you can't prove it. It that all?
