Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Plex Coming to Xbox One “SOON” – Time to Make Things Organized

Microsoft has confirmed that they will be allowing Plex Client development for the Xbox One. The makers of Plex are given a membership of the ID@Xbox, so that they can develop and release the software for the Xbox One as soon as possible.

In case some people are unfamiliar with Plex, must know that it is a software that will help you in organizing all your personal media, which will become accessible on your mobile phones, tablets and laptops anywhere you want.

Plex also provides access to number of streaming channels such as Vimeo, YouTube, CNN and TED talks etc. It also provides integrated cloud services that include Google Drive, Copy & Bitcasa, Box and Dropbox.

The developers have not given the exact release date but have assured the fans that they will start working on the project right now and make it available for the Xbox One very soon.

In their Xbox One reveal show, Microsoft promised that they will make their next-gen console a single device for all the entertainment. With Plex and other important softwares coming to the console in the upcoming updates, Microsoft looks right on track on keeping their word.

Plex is currently available for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, iOS, Android, Linux and Windows Phone and soon will be available to you at the Xbox One.

What is Plex Media Center

Around the Network

I have never used Plex, but I know its a very popular program. This announcement should make a lot of people happy.

Just a quick question. I have movies and music I've been collecting for years. Lots of movies/songs ripped from DVDs and CDs. Stuff friends have given me, etc. Does Plex have a feature to automatically find info/boxart for the media or do you have to manually enter everything?

I like the look and interface of Plex, I'm just wondering if it is really worth the time to try and set everything up in plex or just keep using my older media server software.

I have a friend at work that talks very highly of it. Just never used it my self but I am going to give it a go later today.

Didn't it work on the Xbone's browser?

This should be big news for people who complains about the fact you can't play videos directly off your network. Plex is basically a fork off XBMC and is quite easy to use. Even with the 360, I have Plex on my desktop and can stream WAY MORE videos than the out of the box 360 can. On top of that there are a lot of Plex apps that will open up many more sources of videos for you. So for example you can not only watch your home movies, videos, music and photos off your network but in my case I can get Hulu as my PC can be set up for VPN which the Xbox cannot and can stream any shows off the Hulu service from the US.

The best media playing console of the new gen just pulled further away from the others.

The gap is actually pretty huge now as the other two are basically incapable of anything much.

Good thing they are so focused on games now...

Good news - hope it will come along to the PS4 too at some point. Still so surprised with both consoles lack of DLNA.

You can use Plex on PS4 since release... I think you can use on Xbone too but nobody answered me... you can use even on Wii U .
