Wow, you are right, did not realize how well it did abroad.

Luke warm? Maybe in the USA (but it still made $100 million), the rest of the world liked it well enough, and it reviewed well too. I would say the fact that Pacific Rim well and truly made a profit at the boxoffice is the reason more Kaiju movies got green lit.

I don't know anything about Gamera so it's hard to get excited. But I do like a big monster movie well done.

Oh, hell yeah.  Gamera is straight-up awesome.  He's a goddamn turtle who kicks ass.

If they're going to do "daikaiju" (the actual term for giant monsters) films, I really wish they would use "suitmation", supplemented with CGI, instead of just straight CGI. It would look so much better, especially the battles.

I hope this American "Godzilla" isn't awful, but I also hope that if it does well, that doesn't just give Toho an excuse to be even lazier and cheaper about ever making another legit Godzilla film THEMSELVES, which is what most long-time G-fans genuinely want.
