Forums - Politics Discussion - The Coming Obamacare Shock for 170 Million Americans

I have been living under a rock and haven't really cared to come out to take a peak at this.

@Spurge so basically.. what is this? Like what exactly are we supposed to do?

We are supposed to sign up for obama care for what? And how exactly do we do it?

.. And how is it going to affect our paychecks? Is it supposed to take like 10$ out of each paycheck or something?

Edit: i don't feel like looking it up on my own.

What you are supposed to do? Get health insurance
How? Go to the government website (healthcare.gov or your state's healthcare site) and browse plans.
Is it going to affect paychecks? Some businesses distribute healthcare like that but that is not what this is about. For insurance not though your employer, you have to pay money like you would with car insurance. Plans seem to be around 100$, however you can get tax breaks if you fall into a certain income level (I personally got free insurance)...

PS: I'm pretty sure that the deadline has passed and if you don't have health insurance, you have to pay a small fine or something...

I'm an infant

Lol

Yes i am and this is the part where you or somebody else says " how could you not know about this? You live in America and don't know about Obamacare?" Yada yada yada

I've been avoiding this Obamacare thing ever since the 1st time i attempted to look into it.

I know that the longer you wait, the more you will need to pay for healthcare each year or something like that. I just avoided it ever since then.

So just tell me how much obamacare asks you to pay each month

Can't say for certain, but it'll be a lot more than $10/paycheck.

the penalty is $95. based on income. no penalty under the right inccome bracket.

Are businesses actually using capital for risk-taking and expansion right now? No? Then nut up and hand over your money. Profits just go either to dividends or into speculative financial instruments nowadays, not into new hiring or capital improvements (at least not in the main), so they might as well get taken into the healthcare industry.

I don't get why the ACA didn't include price-controls. I guess the subsidies are what are supposed to fix that.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Should of just funded the healthcare with taxes like the UK. You lot are only paying for a bloated army right now, a couple wars and some fascist mass spying organisations. Good priority of American government with so many in poverty!

What I do not understand about this system is....how does the federal government expect to make money? Or is this basically a welfare program?

1. Millions more people recieve preventative treatment, and full and timely care for serious conditions

2. These people are then able to go to work more fully and frequently

3. The increased tax revenue, decreased unemployment/disability/deprivation payments and reduced cost of repeat emergency healthcare offsets any additional expense

Please understand that this kind of welfare makes complete economic sense.

US Medicaid budget = $295b (I think. Hard to find numbers)

US population = 313m

Therefore, US Medicaid spending per person is $78 per paycheck. Now, whether you want that in the form of income tax, insurance purchase or public debt is up to you, but there's no avoiding it.
