Forums - PC Discussion - AMD R9 295X2 Specs Out: GTX Titan Z Killer!

http://techreport.com/review/26279/amd-radeon-r9-295-x2-graphics-card-reviewed/13

It's worse than a single  GTX 780 Ti on a better measure of perceptible image quality (99% percentile framerate, rather than gross framerate)

NVidia looked at this and said "ouch". Nvidia high-end GPUs are getting way (more) overpriced. I hope they get their thing straight, since I actually prefer NVidia over AMD on GPUs.

That change things. How does this test differs from the raw medium fps? It looks more interesting than raw performance.

Basically, multi-GPU setups can produce more frames, but they'll come out like this: 10ms, 10ms, 10ms, 50ms, 10ms, 10ms ...

And that gives a worse image quality to the viewer than the following: 12ms, 12ms, 12ms, 12ms,  12ms, 12ms. Even though the first card has higher FPS, the second card will look better to a human.

So the 99% measure shows in how long you can expect 99% of frames to be rendered, rather than the average. For smooth framerates, that comes out to the same thing as raw FPS. But if they're more like the first situation I said, it's a better measure of the experience.

So I will some up the main points quickly:

-Yes it is faster than 2x290X.  It is clocked higher and has better scailing.

The card has two 8-pin power connectors. That allows a maximum power draw of 375 Watts.

This alone will tell you that its performance will be similar to a Titan Z (which very obviously it is aimed at), certainly not "killing" it (as far as performance is concerned).

Look up reviews.  It is stronger than 2x780 TI's.  Tomshardware did the math and found that based on 8 TF the Titan-Z is probably clocked ~700Mhz.  Yeah this will kill it considering it is stronger for half the price...

$1500?! Anyone looking for buying organs here?

This is meant for 4K, and at 4K it absolutily shows a noticable difference.  It would be silly to buy even a 780 for 1080p.

P.S.  That is also 1 game, and a crappy one at that.  You are ignoring benchmarks where this thing stomps a 690 by over 50%:

Or double's the 690's minimum framerate:

AMD is making a killing from the scrypt miners and gamers. Miners are buying AMD cards while shunning Nvidia cards. If I had some spare money I would probably invest in AMD stock.

-Stronger than 780 Ti SLI, and so likely stronger or comparable to a Titan Z.  (Though at this point Nvidia will update their design some way to counter this I am sure)

-Yes it is faster than 2x290X.  It is clocked higher and has better scailing.

-Likely price of $1500 instead of $3000.

-Built-on 120mm closed loop cooling system.  Yes this means it requires a 120mm fan slot to be used.   Does this limit what cases it can fit in?  Maybe, but the actual card itself is still just dual-slot while the Titan Z is tripple-slot.

-It comes out 4/8/14.  Very soon!

So what are your thoughts?  R9 290X2 to be announced soon as well?

^This leaked benchmarl was clearly from Techspot, but they have since ammended the article to try and hide the source.  It should also be noted that Bioshock: Infinite leans towards Nvidia cards, and yet it still won.   Expect a bloodbath in BF4.

EDIT:  Yep it destroys the competition.  Titan Z may be dead on arrival:

Sure it is an epic gaming card, but remember what the Titan Z was for? As stated, it is for harsh number crunching for simulations and rendering programs, not for gaming. The 790 will be for gaming ^^. However, will it beat 11 teraflops at a mere 65oC and ~465W? Doubtful.

You and me both.  I am excited to see what Nvidia can bring from Maxwell, but honestly AMD just gets me excited WAYYY more often.  Hell Intel even does and they are stagnating.
