Forums - Politics Discussion - Hypocritic US calls on Europe to wean itself from Russian gas

Do not get how this is hypocritical.... Unless they think the US is addicted to Middle East Oil, which is a fallacy. The US gets 80% of its imported oil from Canada and Mexico most of the rest comes from "Europe", or drilled by European companies off of the various American territories. (As in North and South America). The US only get less then 1% of oil from the middle east.

Only 1% ?

More like 23%, while Canada + Mexico comes to 48%

The US buys 1% but steals the other 22% from the middle east, that's why they are so quick to intervene under the guise of "humanatarian".

We are all hypocrites OP.

As for the idea isnt bad other than the Green-terrorists loving Obozo and the power crazed EPA has red taped the shit out of getting anything done. We have the resources to fuck russia in their ass and make the price super cheap but we dont have the intelligent people in charge with enough fortitude to do it.

1.Impossible.

2. Impossible and stupid.

More like American oil companies drilling oil in Iraq and selling it to China. Now they want to sell it to Europe too.
Pretty smart strategy, make money of foreign oil without being all that dependent on it. Let someone else take that risk.

No worries, we just need to emulate a revolution in Chechnya and send troops disguised as civils.

Oh wait, that would be so low... so Russian...

You actually did that. It was called the first Chechen war .

Its easier said then done the US could send us some of their oil to replace the gas from russia build a transatlantic pipeline or something.... I mean this will just raise the gas prices in the US a little maybe 25% so why not ? Not everybody needs a car in the US anyway time to use some more bicycles....

This is why we should be developing renewable energy and a means to store such energy. Russia would be fucked then.

tech isn't good enough to store enough energy efficiently at low cost for a base load yet. Give it 10 years and we will get there.

I hope so because countries need to seriously start looking at energy self-efficiency as a key policy if they hope to counter the power that Russia and the Middle East would have when traditional energies start to run out. Russia especially, will use it's energy supplies to make Europe it's puppet. It done this with Ukraine in the past, so that is likely

China is thinking of connecting to Europe via a 5000km cable lol. They building a shitload of windfarms. Only issue with windfarms without decent storage is that they will cause a lot of frequency control issues due to their nature if we replace traditional power sources too quickly. ATM traditional power sources need to be spinning in reserve ready to take up this load should they be a sudden drop from wind farms.

Also Nuclear is actually  renewable. Only reason it is so bad is because of the waste. Once Bill Gates' little nuclear program solves how to use that waste to also produce power it will help go towards a better cleaner energy source to support the base load.

How would China avoid Russian territory though, it would have to make agreements with countries to Turkey to build such a pipeline? Surely the point here is to avoid Russia.

The move with windfarms are necessary but solar panels and wave energy are too. I can't imagine the amount China would have to use to no longer need coal or gas, it would be ridiculous.

Personally I don't mind nuclear except how they ruin the landscape around them but also the waste is a big issue. If anything, waste of anything is our society's biggest problem. If we can find a way to use our waste except just throwing it away then we may be alright.
