Forums - Gaming Discussion - Infamous Second Son impressions (no spoilers) PS4 fan

Overall, I'm disappointed.

I thought the main story was pretty good, but it didn't blow me away.  The graphics (the best thus far in this gen) and the gameplay were fantastic, and I don't think there will be any game on the xbox1 that will look better than Second Son for a long time.  My biggest gripes are the monotonous side missions and the shard collecting.  The hidden camera, audio recording, and spy missions are boring, and there are so many of them.  I wish this game had more variety of side misssions.  Take away the graphics and Second Son is less fun than Infamous 1 and 2.

I finished the expert good playthru.  I'm begrudgingly going to play the bad playthru to get the platinum trophy.  The papertrail missions are somewhat good, and papertrail missions should be part of the trophy accomplishments.

Sucks that you're disapointed. Do most users feel the same way? I haven't read many reviews/impressions on here.

It's no Infamous 2.
The sidequests were quite uninspired and I hated that secret agent thing with a passion. I was actually fully expecting something like a race against time sidequest.
The city was quite monotone as well.

Gameplay and story wise it really is a big step down. It kinda looks like it was quite rushed and they had to think of the side missions last minute.

I didnt like the main story much at all, but i enjoyed everything else about the game. Its a solid 8/10 for me. I agree that infamous 2 was better, maybe even the first infamous, but it was still a good game and the best exclusive the ps4 has at the moment in my opinion.

That's sad to hear but it is what I expected and loved in the inFAMOUS 1 & 2.

In what way was it a big step down gameplay wise? :/ I agree the side mission content was a let down, but i can't think of anything about the gameplay that was worse than 2. I'd say the gameplay was improved even more than the visuals were.

To me this is a huge update in terms of gameplay. Neon power is great to move quickly. I love the set of new powers. I am enjoying it. But the city is very small.

Good, but I might have to give the crown to InFamous 2 still. Overall its graphics, powers (gameplay), and story made up for its shortcomings:

-Not enough good/evil side missions
-Not enough types of enemies
-Not enough awesome bosses and mini bosses
-Not enough exploration of just about EVERY cool character in the game.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

[Prediction Made 6/18/2014]

Rubbish City. Rubbish side missions. Rubbish enemy variety. The powers you get are all too similar to eachother, with nothing spectacular making each of them stand out. Main story doesnt last long enough. NPCs are dull, with not enough back story or interaction. Cant skip cutscenes on a 2nd playthrough. No day/ night cycle. Really shit antagonist.

After playing openworld games like Grand Theft Auto 5 and Assassin's Creed 4, Infamous: Second Son feels like a game that was rushed out. It feels like they focussed primarily on the graphics, while leaving everything else as an afterthought.

A lot to improve with the game overall, would give it a generous 6 out of 10.

The boring side missions in a boring city with boring characters and a boring story don't really do anything better than Infamous 2 which had very fun side quests, interesting Characters, an engaging Story and a hell lot more interesting and divers city. Not saying that I didn't have fun with it but it doesn't really beat Infamos 2 in anything but graphics.
