Forums - PC Discussion - Does anybody ever get worried that Steam might one day go out of business?

Well, basically all games everyone bought on it will stop working because of the crappy DRM. I know Gabe says that in this case they will patch it, but that decision is probably up to each publisher, not to him.

What if HL3 is being saved up for the day Steam's popularity starts to decay and then BAM! HL3 Steam Exclusive and the golden days of Steam come back 10x stronger than they ever were?!

If they take too long, there'll be no one left to care.

Steam?! Out of business?! Hell no! I enjoy trolling players in Left 4 Dead 2 when I am bored! =)

While it would suck for sure there would be other services to take its place.
As for my game collection, well, there's always pirate bay.

It shouldn't be too much of a problem to crack the games like pirates do if it comes to that. Well, the only problem will be online play lol

Well, in the worst case people would just have to copy the save files and download a cracked copy of the game. It's piracy, but it would be actually fair in that case.

I'll go back to playing Donkey Kong Country

Quality Control is the main issue with steam right now.

I thought Greenlight was a counter to this?

Well it was supposed to be but then Steam lets publishers put up awful old games to really bad mobile games regardless of Greenlight. To add, Greenlight just isn't any better since they let hundreds of games through at a time. right now Valve just doesn't care what goes on it's store.

and my thoughts on when Steam goes out of business is either you lose all your games or they find a way to make you be able to redownload the games you own.

Squeezol's Fanclub Member? is that how it works?

Why can't I hold all these no gaemz?

Always looking to improve my awful drawings ;_;

If Steam went out of business or they had a new policy that stated you could only play the game for 5 years lets say even for existing games in your library I think many would turn to piracy of the same titles.

To be honest most of the games I've bought on Steam have been brilliantly priced, well below normal console game prices. I'm amazed at the huge library I have for so little money. The ability to run the same games on my various pc's and older laptop is brilliant. I'd find it hard to get angry with Steam for the sheer brilliance of the service they have provided.

I personally think in such an instance Steam would come up with a fair policy to allow you to backup your games and make install discs or something similar.
