Ouch on the broken 8350.. Still, at least you didn't damage the motherboard.

And very nice build you've got there. If you have 3DMark, do post some benchmarks. Curious to see how an all AMD system performs.

On anther note planning to renew my PC as well. Just waiting on Intel for their Haswell refresh - 4790k (should be out soon), then higher end Maxwell for the graphics card. Already ordered my ram 16gb (1866) Patriot Viper 3 4x4GB to go with it.

Maxwell, which generation of Nvidia is that? The GTX680 and GTX780 cards, or is the upcoming gen?

Nvidia's next gen. GTX8XX series cards = Maxwell. Also GTX750 Ti.

GTX6XX and GTX7XX are both Kepler.

Nice build, but damn that's one bulky case... for my tastes, anyway :P

Do you have pics of your cable management? And how does that FX6300 compare against an i5? Because I'm planning to upgrade soon.

Yeah, it's a fairly big tower but I wanted it that way. Easier to switch part inside the machine, plus I really wanted a red case.

Cable management with this case is excellent. My camera just ran out of batteries so can't take a pic but I assure it's very convenient. You have several tunnels that go into the back area of the case where all cables are nicely stacked together. In the main space of the case there's your usual couple of cables that "obstruct" somewhat, like the power cables to the motherboard, the PCE-express cables and such. Airflow and conveniency is excellent though.

I think an i5 is much faster for desktop tasks but in gaming, even in RTS games and other CPU heavy games like Skyrim, under high quality graphics settings it's only 10-15% faster, tops.

What do you currently have for PC?

Well just don't forget to give us pics of the insides of your rig later ;)

Right now I have a Conroe Pentium Dual Core @3Ghz OC, 5GB DDR2 800... and a GeForce GTX760, of course.

I can't decide if I should go AMD or Intel. I could get a FX6300 for about $137, a FX8350 for about $208 or an i5 4440 for about $216 (all USD). And all the MB for the AMD's are cheaper. Not sure if Intel is worth the premium.

I would have gotten an intel processor instead but who am I to tell someone how to spend their money ...

Well, you wouldn't get an objective answer from me at least, since I'm a huge AMD fanboy.

I think that case is horrid, but I like more traditional black designs myself. Got a Fractal Design Midi tower myself with a customized window on the side and some leds attached to it inside.

Setup looks great parts-wise. Feel sorry for your 8350 =(

I wanted something that sticks out.

I'd say go with FX6300 and put that saved 70$ aside for a stronger GPU in the future.

Do NOT go AMD for your CPU. Intel only

Ouch so sorry to hear about you 8350!! Brings a tear to my eye!
u
My friend and I have very similiar builds, he has a 660 and a 4770k.
I have a 660 and 8350. I expected very similiar results and for the most part they are on par, but some games like Metro 2033 - my system honestly has noticeabably better performance.

While I do agree that Intel has a better CPU, don't dare discount the newer AMDs for gaming. You still get a pretty damn good bang for the buck.
