Forums - PC Discussion - My new AMD monster PC finally built!

But I don't gain anything from having Win 7 over Win 8.1 do I? I just bought what seemed like the default option (my last OS was Win XP). So far I'm ignoring the Metro interface although it actually is pretty slick.

Windows 8.1 is better for gaming for sure. You made the right call.

Nice setup you got there! I myself like Nvidia and Intel more than Amd, but hey, pc gaming is pc gaming at the end of the day, glad you could come back to the dark side >:)

Really nice build, the CPU may bottleneck the GPU though, just a warning.

Edit: The i5 is shown in benchmarks to be vastly superior to any AMD CPU when it comes to gaming. AMD CPUs are better for budget video or music decoding or editing, but i5 outpaces it in gaming.

The CPU might bottleneck down the line when the HDD is filled with junk and all sorts of background programs the CPU has to keep track of, but in general there's only a 10% gain to get from a really fast CPU compared to the one I bought.

By the time my HDD is filled with junk I'm probably gonna upgrade to something new AMD (hopefully) has to offer.

Alright, just making sure you knew where the bottlenecks where, that's a beautiful PC you have, enjoy it :) (btw, you have the same tower as my brother, lol)

About the LEDs, there's nothing you can do about it without modding. You can de-solder the ones that come with the case and solder another LEDs of the colour you want (big balls if you go this route), or if that's too much for you, you can do other, less radical things like installing red cathodes (like this or this one) that you only have to connect to a Molex plug or use a LED strip of the colour you want (like this one), that uses one PCI slot.

That sounds too complicated for me!

The first option for sure, but the other two are very easy.

Look at the cathodes (nothing more than fluorescent tubes). Just look for one of the molex plugs that your PSU has, they look like this

connect the adaptor that powers the cathode(s) and voila! Job done. You'll only need something to hold the cathodes where you want them. Like double-sided adhesive tape.

What can be easier than that?

Just don't put them on the side panel, of course, but maybe at the "ceiling" of your case and/or the back next to the exhaust fan so the light can be visible through the window of the side panel.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Gratz! Have fun and don't play too much Legends of Grimrock ;)

Still sounds a little complicated. What are you talking about lol?

At the other end of the scale I built my PC back in October I think last year for £230 (already had a 1TB HDD).

AMD A10 5800k
Radeon HD6670 2GB
Motherboard I forget the name of
8GB memory (2x4GB)
cheap case with psu
2 xDVDRW drives

Absolute cheap ass system but works well in dual graphics mode and plays all games well (not always at full detail). Quad core 4ghz processors seem fast enough for me.

Runs 3D games well on my passive 3D tv.

Skyrim screenshot below. 1080p and fast frame rate. Just making the point PC gaming doesn't have to be expensive. My PC costs less than a xbone and ps4 but delivers superior cpu performance and graphics performance between the two consoles. Also more memory and a faster hard drive. I've not been disappointed with the performance of any game although have had to adjust down some detail on later games. I can also do the xbone thing of rendering at a lower resolution and upscaling if necessary. Haven't needed to do this yet though.

I know the F6300 will run almost all games just fine

but it is overall not what I would put into a gaming pc.

*facepalm*

Well I said "almost all" so it's still sub-uptimal. :P

I just don't see a reason to limit myself. Knowing that I could've easily done better is one of the worst things for me. I know what I'm talking about. I regret my purchase of my 3570k as soon as it arrived at home. Now whenever I run into a scenario where it is limiting I will bash my head in because I didn't just buy the i7.

I would've probably killed myself if I went for a GTX670 instead of the 680. The 680 was still lackluster for me but I least I knew that I couldn't have done better at the time I bought it.

LOL the 680 is a joke in price/performance compared to the 670.  But whatever man you can act like money is no object if you want...

Money is no object to me when it comes to my hardare. I go for performance and not price/performance ratio. Sure, I have my limits but those seem to be a bit higher than most.

You can preach all day long how great some things are considering price but that doesn't make them any stronger. A few bucks on my table don't move the pixels on my screen faster.

I will definitely go for an 880(or 880ti if available) next time around. Why would I buy weaker if I have the money?

Because that 10% makes no difference, and anyone who is good with money knows that.  The Titan for example is the definition of the dumbest thing I have ever seen.  When it released it was only 30-40% stronger than the 7970 GHz, and yet cost 3x as much.  On top of that, 3-way 7970 Crossfire pretty much tied 3-way Titan SLI.  Paying the most for an extra 5% just proves you are bad with money. Period.

P.S.  The strongest aftermarket 670 is stronger than the strongest aftermarket 680.  Look it up, MSI overclocked a variation of the 670 lightning so much that not even an overclocked 680 could reach it (And there are 7950's that do the same thing).

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.
