Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What if the Wii U was never called "Wii U"?

Would it sell better?

Absolutely 179 49.72%

Not too much 118 32.78%

Nope 63 17.50%

Total:360

As long as the concept and execution remained the same; things would be largely unchanged, the name is not the main issue, but it isn't exactly doing it any favors either.

Doesn't matter what it's called, it's still D00MED!!!

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

It would have sold a shit ton more unless its something even more retarded like Wii One

Or... One Wii!

Remember the Wii Stream rumors that were going around?

Not at all.

It was back when it was still project cafe.

"Games are a trigger for adults to again become primitive, primal, as a way of thinking and remembering. An adult is a child who has more ethics and morals, that's all. When I am a child, creating, I am not creating a game. I am in the game. The game is not for children, it is for me. It is for an adult who still has a character of a child."

I wasn't paying attention to gaming then. I started paying attention around August 2012.

No

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

We would then have a badly selling console that doesn't sound like an Ambulance whenever somebody mentions it's name.

I think so.
Just because it had Wii in the name made me avoid it for months then I actually played it and enjoyed it heavily.

http://moongypsy.bandcamp.com/ ~Thank you Stefl1504 for the amazing sig~

Wii sold 100million using a dumbass name. Ipad sells millions with a Maxi Pad name. Google is used by everyone despite a dumb name. Twitter is used by millions despite sounding like a plural insult. Xbox 360 sold 80 million despite it's dumb name. (seriously Xbox 360 is like Saying Xbox Xbox..every XB has basically the same name. Xbox.Xbox 360 which going 360 is just coming back to Xbox and Xbox One is referring to Xbox..dumb as hell)
PlayStation sold despite a vague name. Nintendo DS sold despite a dumb name.

The name is ass but it's not holding sales back. It's one simple word. Marketing. Or two words Good Marketing. Or even 3 words ALOT of good marketing. They have failed at it.

I think it would have helped them to have a completely new name for the system, and just say that its backwards compatible with the Wii.
