PS4 sells amazing, Sony fires a ton of staff. Makes sense.

Well that is logic these days, or the lack of it.

I'm sure you have a much more logical solution to Sonys financial troubles, just because the PS4 is doing well doesn't mean that Sony can afford to employ hundreds of developers working on projects that Sony doesn't see making them their money back.

That being said, it's obvious that this departure is not because Sony's trying to save money, if so they'd fire more then just one person, it's way more likely for some personal reason, this happens all the time in the game industry, it just unfortunately fell in the same timeframe as all these other "studio restructurings".

I have read it, I understand what has happened completely.  Now... why is this not bad news?  Or rather, how is this good news?

Since all I said is (a) he pretty clearly wasn't fired and (b) Uncharted 3 was a huge step down so I'm glad Richmond won't be directing 4, your comment seemingly had nothing to do with mine.

AAA games have become too expensive to develop.

My guess would be that budgets have been lowered, resulting in people being asked to take pay-cuts. Not all that unusual during restructuring. Many people will choose to test the waters of the job market instead. It's also possible that people near the top have been warned that positions will be eliminated in the future, which allows them to find another job and leave on their own. Sounds unfair but it's pretty common.

Studios will probably have to work with fewer employees from now on. Without knowing how much bloat or how many superfluous positions were on the roster originally, it's impossible to see what kind of impact this will have in the long run.

What we'll likely see is big names leaving, with junior staff members moving up to take their positions at less pay. Could be bad, could be good. We'll just have to wait and see which.

maybe

but TLOU sold 6million @ pretty much full price why would sony punish their studio thats making the most money?

He sacrificed himself for the good of the company. He does honor to his famiry and glorious Nippon.

You mean "grorious"?

...I wish Sony would just come out and share their plan about their restructuring.

There have been a lot of changes since 2012.

3 studio closures, one acquisition

....and a lot of "redundant staff " :(

Uncharted 4 is headed into 75-80 meta score now. Seriously though, things are not looking good for Sony's 1st party. Which is why I am waiting on getting a PS4. With a ton of JRPG support still coming for PS3, i'll have more then enough to play on that platform. The future looks very dim right now for Sony's 1st party line up..

Yeah... as I said earlier.  There is no bad news in Playstation land.  Ever.

Reading lessons for everyone!

While I understand your point it just seems kind of off for this instance anyway. I mean seeing as people move in the industry all the time it is kind of not out of the norm. Now I don't think this is "good news" but that doesn't mean that it is by any means "bad news". Your post made more sense in the other topic about Sony taking a loss and people ating like taking a loss was not bad when it is no matter how you look at it. EVen if it is for restructuring and rebuilding being in the red for as long as Song had been and taking anohther loss is not good.

The absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence...

PSN: StlUzumaki23

dang how many does that make now in Sony studios leaving? this is nuts
