Forums - Gaming Discussion - Did Talonman forsee our currect downfall

I think makingmusic and machina have a very good and maybe it's one of the more subtle things that's been missing - and believe me, this is NOT me tooting my own horn! If you know me, I'm as self-depricating as they come...  :)

Back before this current version of VGChartz (the blue/white and the first black one) - the site was built BY the forums. Every feature that was added came from the voices of these forums, and most of which were done as I was reading the forums! If there was a suggestion I liked, I banged it out - if a bug came in, I jumped on it. But mostly, I enjoyed just building this stuff to see the reactions from you all - if you guys were happy and liked something, I was thrilled!! I was just looking back at some of my old posts - when I added forum polls, and the game forums, and of course the VGC-IM - GREAT STUFF!!! People were really happy when these types of features rolled out, and I was happy to bring them out!

With this current black/green itteration, Brett brought in a consultant to help out - AND BEFORE ANYBODY SAYS ANYTHING, THIS WAS NOT A BAD THING!!!! He absolutely NEEDED a dedicated coder to get the things done that he wanted. There was no way I could invest the same amount of time a paid consultant could - I have my OTHER job I'm getting paid for, afterall! And with kids and life and all that goes with that, there was no way I could rebuild from the ground up. The downside to that though, is a paid consultant is NOT the same as being 'one of the guys' that hangs around on this site and (at least in his OWN mind) has a finger on the pulse of the community. Most of the time, I knew what you guys wanted before you asked - a consultant, on the otherhand, isn't going to punch a single key unless you give him exact specifications as to which keys you want him to punch. And that's where I think some of the 'spark' might have gotten lost.

Anyway, I'm probably giving myself way too much credit here! LOL!! But I do like to think that I had a big part in making this place great back then and believe me, I have EVERY FAITH IN THE WORLD that as long as Brett is actively re-imagining this site, there WILL be good things on the horizon.

Be scared if he ever loses interest - he's a 'one of a kind' guy...  :)

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

The only (slight) downfall was certain users signing up and moving topics away from sales because they don't actually know anything about them!! We moved away from a very informed forum to people that don't even know the difference between shipped and sold ...

Tis a shame, happened around 2010~

That and badges, points ect which I take partial responsibility for :P created a lot of useless spamming.

And that thread doesn't even mention the loss of the prediction league

lol remember when some people got random titles with their name and some even got there username permantly changed. He will definitely be missed so true how he knew what we wanted and always delivered, I missed the IM.

If it was merely one thing I'd say no it isn't important, but adding everything together has major issue on the quality. I'm not saying you have to do anything about it, but many of us would appreciate it

EDIT : yes downfall is overdramatic, but then again if I hadn't the issue would have been ignored even longer

Fine I'm a drama queen, but that shows I care, how else if the communication is lacking these days? If i didn't care I wouldn't have raised these quality issues.

EDIT: Don't tell me that Talonman was the only capable person, and after his absense you couldn't find someone.
