Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Will Nintendo debut new tech half way through this gen??

After seeing 3DS sales in Japan, their strongest system in their strongest region, it's pretty obvious that all over the globe Nintendo systems are falling fast, next year could be very ugly for them in terms of units sold and software.

Can and will Nintendo really hold off 3/4 more years before releasing something else and starting again? Perhaps their dual home/handheld console will give them the boost they need.

I think if it had just been WiiU failing they would have marched on a bit like the Gamecube days, but with 3DS now in a  worrying state I imagine they're bringing plans forward, just my opinion.

My guess from the LTD Gen 8 prediction was that in 2016 Nintendo will release the Nintendo Unity Tablet System.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

2DS in Japan
New Wii U model (like the PS3 Slim)
QOL Platform
Maybe a new peripheral (balance board style)

That is pretty much all we will see over the next few years

Nintendo's biggest problem right now is they are struggling to learn how to develop in a reasonable timeframe for HD. A new platform probably wouldn't help.

Be interesting to see 2DS in Japan, the rest tho are total wildcards, save for WiiU slim which would do nothing. I also think it's highly unlikely, Nintendo don't do redesigns to boost system sales and nobody would rebuy.

Nah, their biggest problem is figuring out who they want to target their systems at. WiiU especially is suffering from this.

The GBA had a 3 year lifecycle so I don't see why the WiiU can't. I think a new console could launch in 2015, but 2016 is the more likely option.

I agree Nintendo could introduce a new system after 3 years. WiiU owners would be hella pissed tho, 3 years for a system is a disgrace and an insult to their fans.

Wii U Slim would reduce production costs and allow for a relaunch of sorts. It wouldn't "save" Wii U of course but it would give a temporary boost and reduce costs so it couldn't hurt.
I don't necessary think it will happen, I just think it should and there is a chance...

I don't know about that, wouldn't WiiU owners want a new console that has better support? I mean the WiiU is only getting a handful of major titles every year, I think Nintendo fans would want an upgrade. Maybe Nintendo could find a way to give current WiiU owners a discount on the next console to reduce the backlash.
