oh man I get constantly suprised on vgchartz during the last few days.
In one thread 90% of the people said framerate > visuals and here xenoblade wins.

Easy to figure this one out.
Just about every single Nintendo fan on VGC will answer with Xenoblade.
While the rest of the votes will be scattered between more games, since there was more than one possible choice on other consoles.

So? It's better than most games in the poll, including its predecessor.

Most people haven't played it.
Xenoblade has amazing visuals and one of the best soundtracks ever made. It is the best game on the list and the only game that got me hooked in the last 10 years. I do not even own a Wii or Wii-U by the way but I bought this game to play on emulator in HD because it is widely known to be the best JRPG of the last generation, and even when skipping most of the optional side quests, it will take you more than 100 quality hours to complete the game.

Skyrim which would be my second vote is also nice, I spent 40 great hours just to explore the world map without doing any quests. But you can get bored quickly when doing these quests and the game is full of bugs, also the combat system is not really fun and the number of enemy types is very limited, even the dragons lack variety.

Xenoblade is as big as the Japanese archipelago

As best rpg, nope. More like most dissappointing installment of a franchise, or most limited game experience derived from a series that had an immersive open World staple.
I would have voted for Skyrim or Walking Dead Season 1
Does an RPG have to be about story or gameplay or menu based upgrading or just about "role-playing"?
no Mass Effect 1 or Dragon Age: Origins, but Mass Effect 2? umm...
