So I've never enjoyed Wow because

1. I have to pay for it

2. Its the quintessential MMORPG, that basically standardized everything I hate about the genre

I mean its a well developed but dated game, but my issue is why is every online game trying to be Wow even games that are based off a other series entirely, I'm lookin at you FFXIV and ESO.

I mean I'll play other mmogs and those will be good but they have no story or chracter development because they aren't rpgs.

But then, MMORPGS aren't even rpgs, they where the skin of RPGs, but the only thing I've played that even comes close to a good story is Mabinogi and that game is so 720p

No character development, just random meaningless stats and numbers, no story whatsoever, and the gameplay is tedious, and the combat is shite (even ESO fcked up with its "free" combat system.

I mean what does it take?

All I want is something like Kingdom Hearts Online...

Zenimax kept spamming my inbox with ESO beta invites, they even offered me to play as an imperial and I was like LOL no.

I'm supposed to pay for a game I wouldn't play while it was free.

all these games want to kill WoW and they aren't even half as innovative despite looking prettier, btw ESO also looks like ASS

Is Good Story and Good Gameplay to much to ask from an MMORPG?

People say oh its the community that matters, what if I want to role play as a loner? There is no game, and there is hardly ever any role to be played, the only thing that is true is that its massively multiplayer and online.

Pokemon Red is better than pretty much any mmorpg I've played.

You keep referring to FFXIII but you mean FFXIV , the mmorpg.

On the topic, mmorpgs will always be lesser version of RPGs to me, they could be addictive due the online functionality and changing world, the genre need an overhaul imo. RPGs like Dark Souls would make an epic mmorpg with some tweaks.

I want to play some mmorpgs like FFIV, but the sub prices kill any hope of that. No game, no matter how much time I spend on it, is worth $180 a year in sub fees, not even counting the base game or add-on packs. I understand that some people like to make the argument that subs guarantee quality, but Guild Wars 2 had no subs, just a flat $50 price, and it did awesome, and is still going strong. I really loved that game.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Imo MMORPGs have always been lower quality when in comparison to regular RPGs, and they're only good due to their online functionality.
Although MMOFPS are amazing

I want a WoW clone, but I'm afraid of what I'll get. MMO's cost a lot of money these days. Not the new WoW, but the old style of WoW when it was still good. The way it was before cataclysm.

I remember the game having so much strategy initially. You would have to have a number of disables to challenge any mob. So you would have a mage who sheeped one mob, a hunter would trap another, leaving only 2 mobs left which the warrior would try and keep their aggro on him. Now its some abomination about an aggro meter where the warrior isn't even the best tank anymore, and disables aren't used at all anymore. I quit after trying the new version for 2 days....

WoW came in and basically killed the genre. It's a decade later and we still only really have 'theme park' style MMORPGS.

Still waiting for a successor to UO. It's taking a while~

FFXIV is an MMORPG. Similar to WoW it is an MMO, but before that, it is an RPG, and still even before that it is Final Fantasy.

If you don't want to p2p then you can play those f2p/p2w games with cash shops. Depending on your play style you might even end up paying more compared to a subscription fee mmorpg.

In FFXIV a patch like 2.2 "Through the Maelstrom" is like a full expansion pack compared to those other games you can play for free. You're guaranteed constant updates and added content every 2-3 months. This is what people pay for.

CPU: Ryzen 7950X
GPU: MSI 4090 SUPRIM X 24G
Motherboard: MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 32GB DDR5
SSD: Kingston FURY Renegade 4TB
Gaming Console: PLAYSTATION 5

Doesn't matter to me. I've never played an MMORPG.

FFXIV will be a good filler for a couple months on the ps4 until Dying Light or Destiny comes out... I can skip eating out a couple times or something to sub for a little while... Actually @ $40 for the game you get 1 month and then $30 for 2 more months that's 3 months of play time for just $10 more than inFamous SS
