So, I finished the story and most of the side missions. I have only done the good playthrough though, but mechanics and everything else are going to remain consistent throughout anyways. So here goes my review of the game!

Graphics: 10/10

This game is drop dead gorgeous and most likely the best looking current gen game that is out. Character models and lighting are stunning in this installment of the series. The environment and weather shown is just beautiful.

The World: 7/10

The world is a sight to behold. However the city itself lacks life to be honest. The civilians will act one of two ways depending on your actions as a hero or villain. They will cheer for the hero or fear you. This can change in a moment’s notice if you start fighting the D.U.P though. Your loyal fans will just scream in fear and it always happens this way. They don't cheer for you on the sidelines when you are engaging. It's always the same when you unleash any kind of offensive abilities around them even if it isn't directed at them. They change attitudes towards you almost too quickly. They just don't seem very alive. The destructibility of the world is lacking. You can take down the D.U.P defenses, but unleashing your powers on anything else barely makes a dent. Tree's don't fall or anything of the sort. Cars do create a sense of life in Seattle however and they do break.

Enemies 8/10

The enemies you primarily will be fighting are the D.U.P, cops, and drug dealers. Cops and drug dealers are fairly straight forward. The D.U.P however offers a variety of enemies that can use concrete manipulation against you along with a variety of weapons. Some of them are quite a challenge when in large groups. There are also turrets and helicopters for you to fight. The overall quality of the enemies was pretty good. There are boss fights too and they were quite fun to play. I do wish there were more though with diff powers.

Gameplay: 8/10

Powers:

I will discuss the two revealed powers only since this is spoiler free.

Smoke

Smoke has a variety of attacks and people who played previous infamous games will be right at home. There is the basic blast/charged blast, grenade, missile, and melee. Smoke is more for close range combat since the abilities suit this play style. It reminds me of the shotgun class in fps. The movement ability is smoke dash which is relatively fun to use, but not that great when trying to scale buildings unless you find a vent. It is more for horizontal burst movement. The upgrades are pretty straight forwards (more smoke dashes, more missiles, bigger bombs etc.)

Neon

Neon dash is amazing. It will let you scale any building you want easily. My favorite forms of movement in infamous. The ability is pretty much the same as smoke, but more snipers like. You will be able to slow down time when aiming shots so you can easily get good/bad karma by aiming for leg or head. The rest are pretty close to the variations shown in smoke. The missile is more long range and need to be charged before use though.

Other Powers

The 3rd power changes the formula from neon and smoke (no bomb, diff abilities) which was pretty cool. This power is just plain cool to use and mobility is just really good too. The last power seems to be rather plain in regards to the others. It's still relatively fun to use, but def. my least favorite of the bunch. There’s no bomb though and is replaced with a mobility movement. Overall the abilities were all fun to use in their own way.

Overall

It does get a bit repetitive even with all the diff sets of powers since they resemble each other to some extent.  I still did find it enjoyable even if confrontations felt similar due to your way of fighting. Neon and smoke are pretty similar in the way you engage your enemies. The only variation is the third power really. The rest is the same with basic shot, bomb, missile, and etc. I wish the powers didn't all follow the same basic structure and were more varied. Neon in particular had an effect that fetch could do, but Delsin couldn't. It was so force field attack to knock back opp, Delsin can run and force push, but not the force filed which was weird.

Mission Structure/side quest: 7/10

The main missions were pretty varied throughout. It was pretty good. I didn't have any problems with them. The side missions are repetitive though. It is a couple like finding hidden cam, agent etc. and dong them. Rinse and repeat for each area. There were no variations to this whatsoever. No interesting side missions to undertake, just doing the same things to clear an area over and over again.

Characters/voice acting: 8/10

The char are all well-acted. Delsin was likable to me and Reggie came off as a really cool char by the end of the story. The villain was a bit one dimensional stereotypical role though. She will make you hate her and her role goes that far really. You do learn more of her backstory which does give her more character, but ultimately seems to be more of a motivation for the main char to set off on his journey, The supporting cast with Fetch and some others were amusing. I liked Fetch char by the end of my good play through. The other char were not bad, but I liked Fetch better. Her personality was just kind of fun and unique.

Story: 7/10

It was an overall satisfying tale that was told even if it was rather straightforward. It is a superhero story. With great power comes great responsibility. I think you get where I'm going with this. It plays out relatively the same way too. There wasn't really any twist or turns to the story. Overall it wasn't bad, just don't come in expecting The Last of Us lv of story and you'll be fine.

Sound: 7/10

The game is kind of quiet. The powers seem to lack that punch you would think. The world is kind of quiet too. There is ambience with cars and people talking though.

Overall: 8.5/10

The game does many things right, but it more of an enhancement of past infamous games rather than reinventing it which was prob what Sucker Punch was going for. If you liked previous games then you will like this. If not, giving it a try wouldn't be so bad. Let’s be honest, there are barely any other games on the ps4 currently xD Unless you hated previous games, then just skip this one. It is the same gameplay, but improved with that current gen look. That isn't a bad thing however, it is well worth the money and will offers tons of fun.

I pretty much agree with everything you said. I was expecting a better story then we got. It is probably the weakest infamous story.

I would probably put the overall score at 8/10.

The real question is... Is it worth getting a ps4 for it?

Great review though!

It is a good game, and one ps4 owners should look at.  But no, I dont think it is a reason by itself to buy a ps4.  Of course, very few games are worth buying a console for... It is usually a bunch of games that make a console worth buying, and infamous is a good game to add to that list...

Good review. So both Titanfall and Infamous don't make getting the X1/PS4 worth it. The X1 has a better line up for the rest of the year though.

Like gergory said, it isn't. This game is good if you already have the console, but $400 good? No way. It is a good title to add to the small list on the ps4, but buying a system for this game alone prob wouldn't be good. The list will continue to build though until a multitude of games are avaliable to make the console an attractive purchase.

Good review!

Great review. Take down the enemies score to 7/10 and bump the gameplay to a 8.5/10 and you'd have the exact same opinion of the game as me.

Good review. I hope to start playing tomorrow. The infamous games are my favorite open world games, outside of rockstar, so I should enjoy this. It seems most of the negatives are the the areas infamous games have always been weaker on such as repetitive side quests and a not-so-strong storyline. Where would you rank it compared to previous games in the series?

I have only completed infamous 1, but have seen some gamplay of 2. It is def the best in the series, though the story is alot more straightforward then say infamous one with the time traveling stuff. The mobility of this game is far above the previous games. You will love the mobility in this game quite a bit if you liked coles rail thing. Running up buildings, etc just make it great.
