I got it as soon as the price dropped, the games that I wanted to play were Ocarina of Time 3D, Kid Icarus UPrising, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, Mario Kart 7 and Resident Evil Revelations. from there the system has delivered more games than I have time to play.

I bought one at launch to play SSFIV 3D. I didn't had a 360 or PS3 at the time and I don't believe there was a PC version of the game available. I wanted to play the game and also wanted a 3DS, so that was the main reason.

because its a Ninty handheld, that is the one area IMHO that they are truly above reproach. You buy a Ninty handheld you know its gonna get the games. I actually use my Vita more, but I do enjoy my 3ds, and still pick up some DS games every now and then. still need to get Zelda.
