Forums - Gaming Discussion - Which games disappointed you the most?

Banjo Tooie- Just poor level design. Worlds are too large, cluttered, inaccessible, and the constant switching between characters (Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo, Kazooie, Mumbo, Wumba Transformation) was a pain. Threw too much out at you, and too little of it worked.

DK Tropical Freeze- All of the challenge of the original with little of the memorable levels and creativity.

Final Fantasy 13- I mainly bought this because of how pretty it looked, but looks aren't everything. Incompetent storytelling and beyond boring gameplay.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2- The first Marvel Ultimate Alliance was a fan's dream, allowing you to explore famous places in the Marvel U like Asgard, Murderworld, Latveria and Planet Skrull. The second game let us explore new Jersey and Washington DC... Adherence to the Civil War storyline made for some rather boring character choices.

Mass Effect 3: Ending.

Gears of War (series): This is what happens when you try to make testosterone into a game with no sense of awareness.

Golden Sun Dark Dawn: Waited a long time for this sequel, but the game just wasn't that interesting.

Soulcalibur 4 & 5
After Soul Calibur 3’s sheer amount of content and modes( still waiting for another chronicles’ of the sword mode) 4 and 5 where massive let downs which no amount of special guest character’s will make up for.

Mass effect 2 & 3
What happened to the RPG elements and freedom to explore the universe.

Fable 3
Like a lot of games on this list I enjoyed fable 3, hell I even enjoyed peter molyneux attempt to reinvent the RPG wheel (sanctuary, road to rule etc.) which is the very thing that got it on this list.

Skyrim

After fallout 3 I expected another adventure that would blow my head off (needless to say it didn’t).

Kingdom hearts Recodded
Why this entry even existed in such a story driven series is a mystery to me.

Final fantasy X-2
Good game just didn’t enjoy the story at all and was a let-down after FF X.

Call of duty modern warfare 2
Just didn’t feel it improved in any way on cod 4 that much if at all.

Zelda Skyward Sword
Metroid Other M
Banjo Nuts & Bolts
Battlefield 3
Gears 3
Halo Reach
Modern Warfare 3
The Wii U

Edit:  How could I forget Brawl... easily the biggest disappointment of this generation for me.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Pikmin 3... My introduction to the series.
I enjoy the gameplay a lot, I just hate that I cannot take my time and explore, it ruined it for me. Maybe I'll get back to it one day...

Skyward Sword... its soundtrack wasn't memorable like previous Zelda games. The motion controls were difficult (I hated playing the harp). The lack of exploration. Story and art style were amazing though!

Are there any games they really disappointed you, that you thought would be a really great game but turned out to be just good, average or sucked? Perhaps not lived up to its predecessors greatness, or a new IP that you felt just didn't deliver what you had expected.

Here I will list four games that I was disappointed with.

Zelda: Twilight Princess(GC). While I did enjoy this game a lot, the whole wolf part kind of ruined the experience for me. I just didn't enjoy that part of the game at all, and it took up, more or less 50% of the game. I felt
disappointed.

Battlefield 2142(PC). For me BF2 was the best online multiplayer FPS on the PC for a very long time, it had everything and was truly a great game. Then DICE released this game and I just... felt
disappointed.

Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs(PC). The previous Amnesia and Penumbra games were so great, I truly loved those games and still play them from time to time. When AMfP was announced I felt so excieted and hoped for a truly great experience once again, but this game was just so awful and flat. I didn't even finish this game. So very very disappointed.

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts(X360). Both Banjo Kazooie and Tooie delivered a great experience for me, so I had so high hopes for this game to be a great game too. When they first announced that it was not Banjo Threeie I felt a bit surprised, but still I was very excited for this to be released. And in the end I felt that this game did not deliver even the slightest bit what I had hoped for. Achievement unlocked: Disappointed gamer.

What about you?

I can understand not enjoying the wolf sections...they weren't for everyone. But they weren't even close to 50% of the game...maybe 20% at most.

Sorry...Zelda fanboy automatic defensive reaction. :p No hard feelings, I hope!

Anyway, the games that disappointed me the most:

Mario Kart: Double Dash-Mario Kart 64 remains my favorite MK game (hopefully 8 can top it!) and DD just was everything I DIDN'T want in Mario Kart.

Wave Race: Blue Storm-They took one of the best Nintendo 64 games and totally "westernized" it...losing all the Japanese charm and making a game that (to me) felt frustrating and clunky and difficult. I just couldn't get into it.

Super Mario Sunshine-Super Mario 64...classic. This game...FLUDD gimmick, dull overdone "tropical" island themed levels...just meh. I don't want to spend my time in a game cleaning up graffiti.

Basically the Gamecube was a HUGE disappointment to me...other than Melee and Paper Mario: TTYD.

Super Paper Mario-They changed the formula of two of my favorite games ever...and the Paper Mario series hasn't found its way back since.

Paper Mario: Sticker Star-Originally my MOST ANTICIPATED 3DS game by a mile...then I played it. No incentive to battle with no Exp/levelling, frustrating "thing" sticker system...so disappointing.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. The first MUA game was simple but had a long 12 hour campaign. 2 was at max 5 hours long. I cleared it in 2 hours by spaming certain character moves. The game had a ton of characters. But 20+ where stuck as NPC for no reason. The story was great. But with the exclusive version characters, and really short campaign. It became boring fast.

Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 ruined the series just because they wasted the vanilla version less than a year later. I paid $80 for the collectors edition. I'd have to pay another $40 that were promised for my version. They go blame this nonsense on the earthquake. Worst excuse ever.

Uncharted 3 wasn't all that good. Mainly the MP section of it. UC3 was my first UC game. But I have watched the first two before. 3 felt like something was lacking in the story. it wasn't short. But had some weird issues in levels. The MP protion is just horrible. Guns are either overpowered. Or the lag just ruins the game. Had to give up on most of the modes that don't involve co-op.

SKyward Sword. Between Fi spam and the repeated use of the balloon sword boss. Made me not want to finish it.

I have NOTHING against the Uncharted series...I think it's pretty cool, but I just LOL at that sentence. I used to give my buddy a hard time saying that each Uncharted game was nothing more than an 8-10 hour movie with minor intermittent QTE interactivity. :p

Wow. I've seen GTA4 get mentioned quite a number of times! Shame on Rockstar for sending out many money bags to reviewers.

Don't get me wrong. UC1 and 2 are great. 3 SP just lacked something. To make it feel complete. Like a section was dropped. But the MP screw that mess.

Crackdown 2. Original was so good. Sequel was not terrible, mostly because it retained so many of the originals elements, but it was very meh in comparison.

Infamous 2. Hey guys lets take everything that made the first game great like good story, awesome characters, interesting city, and replace it with a shit story, boring characters, and a shitty city. Top it off with the most failed supposed to be epic but was boring as fuck boss fight ever, meh.

Twisted Metal 2012. The core gameplay was amazing, its too bad ESP and Sony rushed the game out knowing online play was broken. And since online was the main mode, yeah. Brilliant.

good one i forgot about that mess
