I think they should try to release it with GT7 if they can manage to have both ready almost at the same time. This would also ensure that the first shipment would have decent sales since I really believe that many hardcore racing fans would buy it even if it would support only one "big" game. You just have to look at how many racing fans pay hundreds of bucks for a decent wheel.

I mean, if so many buy expensive wheels I hink there could be also many purchasing a VR headset (also for other games) if they know how awesome it is.

For a first entry, I doubt Sony is looking for mainstream.  Sony would want to make a slight profit and not eat any type of cost.  The tech is niche at the moment anyway so trying to go to that 199 price point looking at the specs probably not the way to go right now.

If Sony can really make this work the way people expect, that price point will be fine for the first run.  It will sell at a decent enough clip.

Give people a reason to buy a product and they will pay quite a lot as long as they see worth. 

I agree, gamers are the whiniest people. However the phone market doesnt work the same way.  As i mentoned in another thread, peripherals need something to push them.  Just like all the other peripherals that have come with little success in the past at a much cheaper price.  The two things that i could compare this to right now is either Kinect or 3D.  Kinect was successful with 25m sold, but that was something you could advrtise as a mainstream product.  3D is the other one which is more in line with VR but at a higher cost.  3D has become a failure for home and has really only showed its relevance in 3DS and Theaters.  
 
THen you have peripherals like Wheels that are niche products.  Only the hardcore racing fans get them due to the high price.  

This is where the problem is, peripherals dont usually see high success because third parties which are the leading software in the industry does not support them because they dont profit from them.  And this is talking about peripherals that dont cost 100's of dollars.  There will be a few people who buys VR headsets at $300, as i said its a good price for the tech, but it will not be appealing to most people as devs will have to prove it being worth the already high price  "for games".  This would make a $400 console into a $700 console.  You can buy a wiiU for the same price.  A vita, 3DS for lower.  

Not to mention how you advertise this.  It is the same with 3D, its hard to advertise something that people can not see without being there in person

Sure, there will be always also many who just don't like it but I think most who don't like it yet are people who never tried it out and most who tried it out love it even with the "bad" first Oculus.

That's the thing. Sony has a tough goal to provide as many kiosks as they can in as many places as they can. I hope they are up to that task. 

From my experience they failed it with the PS4. In Poland they didn't have enough kiosks, some had only promotional info about some games, trailers, data some shit like that. And the rest had a couple preloaded games, usually they were showcasing Knack, Contrast, Pinball Arcade (...), sometimes Octodad.If I didn't know anything about PS4 prior it would definitely not sell me on the system.

With VR the experience will be the biggest system seller, not trailers, commercials and so on, give it to the people to try.



So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Ill be on sony to prove the concept and show people its worth it, wont be overly hard gived their capability.  Flower Journey in Vr and Gran Turimso some Fps Evercrack whatever, could do the trick easly nuff.  Id wager medica molecule is involved in making a vr game, out of all wws they seem the right type for this. 

Ads might be far of, they need to do with Vr as they did with PS4.  Overwhelming posativity world of mouth spreading.  SonysVr has the beenfit of being on the domminant console, if they can spread the PS4 love to the Vr ill be a compelling push for early adopters.  PS4 and Vr sounds way more promesing to me then owning a PS4 and Wiiu. 

What ever sony does, vr is being pushed on PC either way.  They will greatly benefit from this.

Given that console are there to stay, it would be like kinect IMO. People first buy console, and a few years later buy the VR hardware when an interesting compatible game launches.

Plus it may be bundled in a few years when both the console and headset will be cheaper.



That'd be an incredibly low price.

People's reactions of thinking this is high is both amusing and disheartening. Hopefully with marketing and a better understanding of the tech the consumer reaction will be much better when it's launched.
