Why do people overreact so much... this happens all the time.

Do you have any idea the credibility and value this guy has? apparently not. His project could have been a major AAA game. It's very bad news when that gets dropped but especially more so with a guy this talented.

And it got cancelled, for a reason

That reason not being that Sony is being cheap and wants to save some money? If the project wasn't coming along at all it very likely would have been dropped much sooner, the fact that so much time was spent on it should say it had potential but Sony choose to throw it to the side wasting all of their work for 4 years. It's a damn shame. This could have been a hit.

I wish Sony were more transparent about the entire situation. Why cancel the new IP after so long? Why fire 50+ devs including some of their best when they're moving to a bigger studio? Ugh.....

What makes this even worse than letting go of very talented developers, a great director and a game which could have been awesome is the fact that with that game cancelled we won't see anything new from Santa Monica in awhile because Cory Barlog just came back in 2013 so his project is obviously in the early stages so it looks like we are going to have to take another helping of GOW after the lackluster Ascension whether we want to or not when we could get that and a new IP. Absolutely sucks.

Is this an indication that Jaffe is coming back ?, he didn't  have good relation with all this guys that are leaving.

How is Sony being cheap if they gave the game 4 years before finally cancelling it? The fact that Sony gave it 4 years might indicate that the game had potential, but the fact that they cancelled it after 4 years and however many million dollar also shows that something was seriously wrong with it, these things don't happen for no reason.

I guess all these people leaving or stepping down are joining Amazon or Ninty. This gotta be a conspiracy.

Probably because Sony isn't in the best financial situation and continues to spend money on The Last Guardian which has been in development hell for YEARS but somehow another promising project gets the boot. This coming from someone who loves Team Ico, considers Shadow of The Colossus one of the very greatest games of all time and was looking forward to The Last Guardian until I realized it probably won't ever get released.  Not to mention another thing which I haven't seen anyone mention, is the fact that God of War Ascension underperformed considerabily compared to God of War 3 so both Sony and the Santa Monica took a hit as a result that may have helped lead to a deathblow for this project, though I REALLY hope this isn't the case.

How do you know it's promising? You don't know anything about the game.

Isn't Sony Santa Monica one of their best developers?  Maybe they wanted to free them up to make a different game.

Gonna guess that you haven't done any resarch on the project. It was supposedly a sci fi open world game. Makes sense when it was being written by one of the writers from Battlestar Galactica. It was being directed by Stig so you know it had potential and supposedly was set for a reveal last year but got pushed back and ultimately canned. If it was close to a reveal it couldn't have been that bad. What makes little to no sense is if the project really wasn't coming along why lay off the team that was doing their jobs following under Stig's project? Seems pretty damn obvious this was a cost cutting measure that resulted in the loss of something that could have/may have been AAA. Damn shame.
