Aonuma Suggests Future Zelda Games Could Feature A Top Down View

The Official Nintendo Magazine has published an interesting interview with The Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma. One of the snippets taken from the interview is that the team is considering using the top down view in future Zelda games and could included the forthcoming Wii U version. We won’t know for sure till E3.

NM: What did you learn from making this game? Can you use any of these ideas in future titles? For example, the Merge (with walls) ability is amazing and it would be a shame if it was never used again.

EA: I think the top-down view made the ability to enter the wall really interesting. Also, in this game, I feel we’ve found a new direction in regards to the potential use of the good old top-down view for Zelda. It’s the kind of point we will take in good consideration when thinking about the next Zelda game

I would sue those ONM bastards if I was in Aonuma's place.

There are puzzles and other situations (like being on a labyrinth) where using a top-down camera makes a lot more sense than the on-the-shoulders one, so I can see a Zelda game where the camera would change from one to the other according to the situation.

There's nothing wrong with that.

Please excuse my bad English.

The best Zelda game is topdown, so this is good.

Seriously though, 3D Zelda on the TV with a topdown view on the Gamepad. Do it, Aonuma. Best of both worlds, could be cool for puzzles.

This guy ^^^

The only thing I'll add to it is the ability to switch to regular play on the gamepad when one needs to go gamepad only view when they need to use the restroom!

So Zelda U will be a beefed up Link Between Worlds like 3D World was a beefed up 3D Land.
Not a smart move, Nintendo. People won't buy a console for something they can play on 3DS.

Totally makes sense.

They're making theirMario games 2d like the SNES iterations and they're making Zelda top down also like the SNES iterations. It's just too much work for them to compete with the huge AAA games of today, so they're going this route to avoid direct comparisons.

It would be amusing to see if they just had an up-ressed Link Between Worlds and that's what they went with.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
