Forums - Politics Discussion - So Fred Phelps is Dead - No funeral

This church is actually kind of hilarious. They've really riled some people up, which is exactly what it seems they wanted.

Anyhow, people shouldn't protest his funeral. Are you seriously asking for people to stoop to their level?

The best thing to do is pray that he sees the wrong he did and does what is right in his time remaining. To hate on him is as bad as him hating wrongly. Jesus teaches to love your enemy. I personally am against homosexuality, but I do not hate homosexuals themselves.

I'm an atheist and even I agree with your post...although I won't be praying cuz that's your schtick.

As for homosexuality I'm like you, I'm against it, but I tolerate and show respect to those individuals, especially at work or in public places.

If however I'm asked for my honest opinion on the matter then I voice it without hesitation, fuck being politically correct.

Why protest? People should be cheering.

Edited for accuracy

Agreed. I think we shouldn't sink to his level because if we do, we wouldn't have learned anything of Jesus' teachings. Yes, we should pray that he repent of the wronging he has done to many families and individuals. It's a long shot, but I believe someone as toxic as him can do repentance. I'm hoping here that no one protest at his funeral.

Although, I am amazed the Church actually ex-communicated him, in his lifetime. Only took them 350 years to apologize for their treatment of Galileo.

What?

The Westboro Baptists excommunicated him. The Catholic Church has nothing to do with them aside from a mutual belief in the bible and Jesus.

The point of being excommunicated is that it happens in your lifetime, to tell you that the church does not approve of your conduct or beliefs in a really fundamental way, usually related to your spirtuality (so a mass-murderer wouldn't be excommunicated, but a heretic would be).

Phelps then committed some heresy against his own small church, and now i'm curious as to what that was.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Yeah I realized my mistake, a couple minutes ago.  I keep forgetting all the ridiculous branches of bullshit religion has spawned.

No, I think everyone who can, should attend his funeral.

Matthew 25:31-46,  Should be the reading, and the homily should be on St. Francis.

"Bridge over troubled water" and "The Prayer of St. Francis" should be songs that are sung.

Wow, that's pretty intense.

And I know The Prayer of St. Francis in spanish, and I think it would go pretty well with it.

Wasn't he the one, who had a gay experience in the military? Is that why he got excommunicated?

People should visit him now instead of waiting for the funeral.

This man must be dealing with a lot of demons and/or have done something if he was excommunicated from his own church.

Fred doesn't deserve love, but he needs it now more than ever.
