Forums - Gaming Discussion - Backlog. Where should I go...

What game from my backlog should I play next?

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune 23 46.94%

Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow 4 8.16%

Sleeping Dogs 12 24.49%

Batman: Arkham Asylum 10 20.41%

Total:49

I've been looking at my backlog as well as the upcoming games and I'm very much unsure what to do now with my gaming schedule. I'm currently playing through DmC: Devil May Cry, Alice: Madness Returns, Final Fantasy VII, and Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. I'd like to try to finish these games first but after them I want to work through my backlog and actively approach some of the franchises that I've ignored...

See, all of these franchises are long, have sequels on the way, and are ones that have almost universally good reviews. I have the first of each of these franchises, none of which I've really played... so what should I play next. You know what I'm playing currently, so hopefully that will help you judge what would be the best game to move onto next. I don't want anything too samey, but obviously my taste in gaming is largely third person action, platformers, and RPGs, so there's an obvious pattern. Here's the four games I'm considering.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - I've heard so many good things about this franchise. There's 3 games on PS3 and an upcoming game on PS4 yet I've not even touched the franchise yet. This seems wrong. I have the first two games but I've not even opened them. I want to see how the PS3 performs when done right.

Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow - I love the Castlevania series, played this for about 2 hours and then my PS3 died. With the sequel now out and this game still sitting on my shelf I want to go though this again. Somewhere in between God Of War and Shadow Of The Colossus with gorgeous scenery. Sounds awesome.

Sleeping Dogs - This game has had nothing but recommendations from where I'm sitting. It's the alternative to GTA that everyone picked up for £6 on offer and then declared was shockingly good. With the sequel coming soon, and knowing this game is easily the longes of the four, so I know I want to play it soon.

Batman: Arkham Asylum - Yes, I've not played the Arkham series. I know, travesty. With Arkham Knight coming out at the end of the year, and Arkham City having been so well recieved I really want to see what this take on Batman is like, (though admittedly the storyline has been spoiled thanks to the internet).

So yeah, those are the four franchises I want to focus on. Obviously as I've not played any of them (except a couple of hours on Castlevania over a year ago), I've no idea which ones will better games, better suited to me, or work in good contrast to the games I'll have just finished and will be actively playing along side, (I'll likely be actively playing Final Fantasy VII on the Vita along side whatever I choose, as with it being an RPG I'll almost certainly have finished the other three games without even getting half way through that game).

Any advice would be appreciated. I've been failing terribly at organising my game time as of late and I'm fed up of having all these great games pass me by, so I'm hoping to have completed all 4 of these within the next 6 months ideally. What I do want to do though is prioritize. Therefore, I'm going to play them vote order. You'll have a few days, maybe a week or two (hopefully not), basically however long it takes me to finish DmC and Alice, to vote before I'll consider the vote closed at which point I'll post and say what I'm playing.

Thanks again for helping me tackle my backlog.

It depends on how you like to play through series. Some people like to play games in a series one after the other, while others like to play one and then wait a few weeks or months to play the next. If you are the former, I would definitely say Uncharted. It is one of the best trilogies of all time and a must play for someone like yourself who likes third person action. Just bare in mind if you play Uncharted that the first one, while still a good game, is the weakest in the trilogy, and 2 & 3 are a massive step up in quality.

Least you dont have 140 games that have never been installed/played out of 270 and another 80 that have never been finished... Gawd, I need to get in that backlog... Damn you steam sales!! T_T

But I would certainly say Sleeping Dogs

Play the Uncharted trilogy first. Arkham Knight won't be released until October, so you still have plenty of time to play through its two predecessors.

Not even a contest. Only one game among those 4 that is even worth playing.

Hint: It's Sleeping Dogs

I recommend uncharted. its a great introduction to an epic series.

I tend to play only one game then move on. I actually rarely play sequels. I've only played the first God Of War, the first Mass Effect, the first Gears Of War, and Demon's Souls but neither Dark Souls games. Sequels are something I rarely involve myself in, but it's hard not to now as every game coming out is a sequel and I hate starting franchises in the middle.

There are some franchise I follow. The old Tomb Raider games, the Ratchet & Clank series, the Devil May Cry series... but I prefer new IPs.

I have a scary backlog actually - http://www.backloggery.com/TornadoCreator - This doesn't include my PS2, GameCube, or original Xbox games that I have in storage, probably an extra 100 games in total; more than half of which I've not finished, about 1 in 3 I've not ever started. It's actually quite infuriating as I don't want to be the kind of person who just collects discs, I want to collect games; games I actually play.

Wow, and I thought my backlog of 7 games was huge

Castlevania is great.

I've heard Sleeping Dogs is also good, but Batman (is boring) and Uncharted (too much cinemas and too simple gameplay) aren't worth their time honestly.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is alright, and if you have not played 2 or 3 then I would recommend it. It was painful for me to get through after returning to it following 2 and 3 though.
