Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS4 and Xbox One should reduce resolution imo.

Is 1080p noticeable compared to 720p?  Yes it is.  But is it so much more noticeable that twice the amount of effects pushed into a 720p game wouldn't make it look better than the same 1080p game with less graphical effects?

Take a look at Ryse.  When it was 1080p some things looked better, but overall they were able to make the game look a lot better by dropping resolution by a fourth.  Compare that to the retail release of Infamous Second Son.  The game still looks amazing, but the degredation in quality is a disappointment in my opinion.  I would rather have the quality of graphics they had back in E3 at 9i00p rather t han the current build they have now.

At the end of the day, 1080p is noticeable over 720p, but it doesn't matter when it takes away from the performance and quality you could otherwise have at a lower resolution.

This dumb gif again. Suckerpunch has stated that they changed the time of day for that scene. Nothing is downgraded.

IMHO - 1080p should be mandatory on next gens.

PSone was 240p
PS2 480p
PS3 i most cases 720p

So there is no excuse why PS4 should drop under 1080p

No need for 60fps, no need for AA.

Well I'm glad not all developers think like you.

Some genres are better when running at 60 fps. Sony agreed when it came to KZ:SF's multiplayer.

I've recently bought 55" BRAVIA.

These trees dropped textures.

Look here!  Stuff doesn't look as good at 7 pm lighting.

What game is that? It looks amazing!

Although the second screenshot looks a bit compressed.

What is teh resolution?

1080p is appareently most noticable on large screens.

60 fps is clear as day on any screen.

infamous wasn't downgraded though...

Textures look worse there though.  Apart from the time of day and such.  Clothing textures actually look real on the E32013 version compared to the retail version in the images shown.

And as I said, Infamous Second Son still looks amazing, but what happens when performance starts to become an issue.  Are they going to let performance take a hit rather than just reduce resolution or are they going to downgrade the graphics.  We're going to reach a point where games are getting better and better looking and unless taking a hit on performance, they won't be able to look better.

love how you ignored ArmGunar's post.

nice agenda.

My opinion in the matter is tha fluid gameplay > number of pixels. If reducing the resolution from 1080p to 720 allows me to have a game working at 60fps instead of 30fps, i will take it anyday.

First thing should happen is the devs make a good game, next worry about what res it can play fluently with. Any dev team thinking about res before gameplay will just push crappy games with high res. Which won't be a pout because it those pixels will all stay on the store shelves.

^Yes that's me ripping it up in the GIF. :)

the whole point about next gen is to improve on the previous gen, if the previous gen was trying to hit 1080p then surely this gen should be about hitting 1080p without any problems or limitation, by saying it would be better to run the games at 720p is just daft as that would be like buying a next gen console for last gen resolution.

Current PC build:

Asus Z97I-Plus, i5 4790K @ 4.6ghz, EVGA GTX 980 ACX 2.0 1377/1853/124%, Corsair Vengence Pro 2400mhz 2x 8192mb, Corsair RM850, Corsair H80i, 120GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD, 750GB Seagate Momentus XT SSHD, 320GB Weston Digital HDD, Corsair 230T, Corsair K50 Raptor, HP XQ500AA mouse, Windows 10 Pro 64bit. iiyama Pro Lite G2773HS 120Hz 1Ms G2G gaming monitor.

Bad example OP, seems you're late for fresh news, there was no downgrade.

Anyway, there will be drop in resolution, 1080p with that GPU (not to mention XOne's) is not sustainable throughout generation if they want to push visuals...pretty much what happened in last gen too.
