Forums - Sales Discussion - Why do people still think XB1 is going to fall to WiiU levels?

Even with those sales, Wii U Japan+Europe is more than XB1 in Europe alone. The 8k and 10k trends won't be all the time, when MK8 comes out, we will see an increase in both regions (for a while at least), while the XB1 will only see an increase in Europe for Titanfall.

As for U.S, is basically the same as I said above. MK8 will give a big boost for a while at least, same for the XB1 with Titanfall, but what's after Titanfall? nothing has really been announced, BenVTrigger said it himself; same with Wii U after MK8 momentum fades .

So considering the known facts, both consoles will see a big boost once MK8 and Titanfall come out, but after that both will decrease pretty heavily in sales, the XB1 will most likely sell more, but not by much.

That's at least my prediction.

What's after Titanfall? Multiplats. Games don't have to be exclusive to sustain momentumn. Japan will be a very short lived boost, we have enough evidence that is the case with that country. DK didn't even give a boost, lets see how Japan responds to MK before calling it a huge boost there. Fact is WiiU has Japan in its favour and not Europe, it's on par with XB1. Japan is nowhere near enough to off set US for XB1.

Feb 14 for WiiU in Japan - 30k?~
Feb 14 for XB1 in US - 260k~

The general consensus around Nintendo fans is that the reason DK didn't boost Wii U was because is "another platformer", don't know if that was legit reason, but in any case, when Pikmin 3 launched the Wii U sold 21k and the system didn't drop below 10k for about a month and a half after the Pikmin 3 release. Is safe to assume MK8 will give a bigger momentum than Pikmin 3.

Add Europe to the MK8 momentum and you will most likely have enough to outset the XB1 U.S sales.

What big mulitplats are we talking about? Only games I can think of are Watch_Dogs (which people are fearing it will be a flop), MGS V: Ground Zeroes, Destiny (which doesn't come out until September), and that's about it. If big games are announced at E3 they won't come out until September at the earliest, that's a big gap with only 3 big known multiplats.

That's not much to go by.The Wii U didn't have a system seller like Titanfall early on. Without Titanfall X1 levels wouldn't be nearly as high. Let's wait for May. If it still sells that well by then I might consider.

I'm amazed at how dumb consumers are at large... I mean if I were in the market for an Xone and just had to wait or pre-order for a better deal in a couple of weeks why would I buy an Xone before titanfall came out. I mean even if I weren't interested in that game (which I'm not) a console with a game is a much better deal than without.

WiiU's first february worldwide - 138k~
WiiU's second february worldwide - 159k~

XB1's first february in the US - 258k.

It's not the case, XB1 has been doing 65k~ in the US alone weekly this past month.

Because it is dropping in Europe, Japan won't change the sales much, and a lot of buyers are disappointed with it. Normally when this happens with a product, once word gets around, the sales fall off a cliff.

Why not? I'll bite.

The X1 and Wii U have opposite problems, but that results in the same end.

The major problem with the Wii U is that Nintendo has done ZERO advertising. If you don't watch Nintendo Direct or visit IGN every other day, you might not know much about the Wii U at all, let alone the games coming up for it.

That's a shame. After the price drop the Wii U is basically asking a fair price for a respectable console, and it's getting torpedoed by utterly inept marketing decisions.

The XBox 1 is the other way around. It has a strong marketing presence, but these days most consumers do a modicum of research before spending $500. Even the least informed gamers know Playstation is in competition with XBox. The consoles look about the same in most regards, but the PS4 is $100 less.

The X1 has a respectable marketing plan, but is ruined by being overpriced compared to the competition.

Now consider that video games are Nintendo's bread and butter. And that Microsoft shareholders want the XBox division gone because it hasn't made money.

The Wii U still can manage second in the generation because Nintendo could, quite easily, advertise the console and fix most of the marketing problems. It's unlikely, but they could do it. Microsoft CANNOT fix the Xbox 1. Even unbundling Kinect, Microsoft has to take a major loss on hardware...which they won't EVER do under shareholder scrutiny.

Both consoles are not selling well and wiiu is selling worst, but we have to say that both Nintendo and MS would like to see their console selling more, much more... If the sales of both consoles is not going up soon, the investors of both companies will start to be more than impatient and we might see bold moves from these companies.

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

I think its more people hoping to be right, than thinking with logic.

Xbox One isnt going to win the generation. I doubt it will match the 360... But one thing I am 100% certain on is that its far from the disaster that the Wii U is.

Xbox One has one simple yet gigantic advantage - It will have compelling support.

Well, xbox fans got tired of standing up to sony fanboys and now they are picking on nintendo and the Wii U. That is quite funny.

Christ, this post ...

A) WiiU's problem is its concept. Stop trying to hide it behind year old excuses like lack of advertising.

B) XB1's price can be remedied. It has a target audience. It doesn't matter if PS4 sells more, the PS360 userbase is huge and there is enough there for XB1 to carve out a respectable userbase.

C) What has videogames being Nintendos bread and butter got to do with anything? They're clearly not doing a good job, look at the facts. MS just reiterated the Xbox division is safe, doesn't reall matter what some investors want. And what's most important is how the xbox division has been doing recently/now. FYI it's making money. the Xbox and early Xbox 360 losses are a sunk cost and not taken into consideration by anyone anymore unless they have an agenda.

D) to your last part, again, it's not an advertising problem. It's not a price problem. It's not a software problem. Console has been out for 16 months and 2 holidays and the sales have been awful. People simply don't want the console.

Um really. I love saying this and will continue to do so.

Dead Rising 3 and Forza 5 provides more genre diversity then KZ did, since it launched alongside COD and BF4. Killer Instinct is also X1's dedicated exclusive fighter where as PS4 does not have one. In terms of crap launch titles, Ryse >>>> Knack for its story, graphics, and general badassery. In 2014 so far, X1 has the timed release of PVZ Garden Warfare and offcourse we know Titanfall is going to make a bigger splash then Infamous.

So I really find it hard to understand your point of view. Unless you include indie games, but those aren't system sellers. Games is ironically the one thing where X1 is actually beating PS4.

I'll concede "genre diversity", even though that's just something you made up to bring down KZ (if you saw Dante's Inferno and GoW3 on the shelf, which would you pick up? Are you gonna downplay GoW3 because of "genre diversity" or lack thereof? A good game is a good game, point blank, period.) But seriously, about Ryse....stop adding all kinds of qualifiers to give yourself a perceived "edge". I could just as easily say Knack >>>>>>> Ryse for it's whimsical art style, fun factor, and user friendly control scheme. Doesn't make it any less of a trash game, just like Ryse. Otherwise, we all should have been praising Lair because it had story, graphics, and general badassery. And you don't know that Infamous won't make a big splash. It's tracking over the prior 2 (in preorders) and its bundle is outselling the Titanfall bundle at retailers (prior to Titanfall's release).

Factoring all that in, and then throwing indies on top of it (which you were correct on that. They aren't system sellers. They're still there, though. edit: and indie support, in general, actually is a selling point for PS4, since Sony is focusing on it), XBone is not actually beating PS4 in games.

Your God of War example is fair, but in KZ's case, both COD or BF4 are better alternatives, going by critical acclaim anyway. GOW was reviewed better then Dantes Inferno so that is where the comparison doesn't work. Your Knack comment would wring true....if this was a Japanese forum (where its bundle was sold the most). I just say that Ryse purchasers generally have a good time with it and talk about its story, graphics, and badassery. Knack pro-commenters, Im sorry but I don't see them, at least not like I see happy Ryse purchasers. Lair would made sense except that game was downright broken (see meta). Ryse is repetitive, but not on THAT level of terrible. Didn't say Infamous wouldn't make a splash, just less then what Titanfall will do (factoring in the free game bundle and even 360 sales as a bonus). There is also Killer Instinct and while digital or not, it is the Xbox's decicated fighter, which is another genre covered. Also PVZ is a thing now, even if will come to PS4 eventually.

Overall, perception and tastes are different, and I get that. But I can at least say it is certainly arguable that X1 is more then holding its own in its game offerings.
