Forums - Gaming Discussion - Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes Review/Impressions

I bitched in the original thread about the price for the length. But they have since dropped the next-gen prices + I have a complete and utter inability to NOT buy MGS games.

So I am going to get it.

Can someone PLEASE explain to me wth is going on here? Because to me, it looks like they took MGS 5, split it up into pieces and are selling them as full games. Is that what's happening here? I'm so fucking confused.

Ground Zeroes is the "Prologue" to Phantom Pain. Its basically one mission (and a few side missions) that gets you hooked into the game and it explains the sitution through tapes, cut scenes and text. I believe Konami have said that GZ will not be in the full game. The best way to explain it is to think of Bravely Default's demo but you have to pay for it and its less than 2 hours but it is fun none the less.

That's pretty much spot on. But they failed to split the game evenly, so Ground Zeroes is apparently absolutely tiny in comparison.

...But I can't help but forgive them for this. The story splits apart so well over the two games, it's half the price of a full game, they wanted to experiment and build up hype for the next game and according to the people who've played it, it's too good to even give a damn.

It's certainly worth more than two bloody map packs from EA, or some subpar, tacked-on story DLC.

TAKE MY MON- Oh wait, they already did.

I am a fan, however, I do not pay for demos.

If you live in the Middle East, you can get the game right now as shops there don't respect release dates and one can get games/movies as early as 2 weeks before their release dates (some Xbox games excluded).

I have read that the Japanese edition come with the option of having English menus and subtitles. I don't suppose the opposite is true, though?

There is an option to have Japanese (as well as others) menu's and subtitles although there is no Japanese voice overs

Many thanks for the quick reply. Hopefully, Konami will follow Square-Enix's footsteps in offering Japanese voices as a paid DLC at the very least.

Japanese voices were free for Lightning Returns...weren't they?

Thanks for the impressions!

One question, does it have any online competitive or cooperative?

Nope. In terms of online, all it has is tropies, time records and rankings and there is no coop as far as I can tell unless there is an hidden option somewhere

Dissapointing, thanks for the information.

Edit Thought that maybe it'll include a beta acccess for Metal Gear Online 3.

Not too sure about that, I am playing the "leaked" release and their online services are not fully up and running cause it hasn't been offically released yet but it does tell me about the online services I mentioned in their online manual and on the main menu screen however it does not say anything about what you mentioned

So basically, the REAL game is Phantom Rain? Because I just want to play the main MGS game.

Only for the first two weeks, I believe. Konami has always profited from die-hard fans buying the Japanese edition in addition to their own region's edition so I doubt that a free DLC will seem that appatizing to Kojima and Co. A paid DLC, which will be accessible to a wider audience, makes more business sense and may match the revenues those die-hard fans provided.

Gonna gamefly it. I love MGS too much to not play it. I am disappointed in the length though. Definitely overpriced for the value.
