Some indie games are great, but most aren't even good. They're almost never close to the quality of the purchase price.

This. But I don't dislike the idea of playing a lot of AAA games :) and PS4 will offer a lot.

~~~~ Mario Kart 8 drove far past my expectations! Never again will I doubt the wheels of a Monster Franchise! :0 ~~~~
They are good to play in between big releases (the good ones ofc) but a console library consisting mostly of indie games would be very weak in my eyes.
So it is happening...PS4 preorder.
Greatness Awaits!
indies touch on retro gameplay themes a lot more than AAA titles do nowadays. I'm getting to the point where I don't really need to play AAA games.They tend to be pretty chores in between major fun sessions. No shooter I've ever played since the genesis era has given me the joy of BroForce.
The dreams of these folks working in the game industry today have long overshot mine.
Indies are like appetizers. Sometimes you're not that hungry and that's all you need, other times you want to get straight to the main course. Furthermore, some indie games are of the cheese and crackers / tomato and mozerella variety, while other are more along the lines of crabcakes and bacon-wrapped scallops.
Am I making any sense here or am I just making everyone hungry?
It's mostly just a list that I came up with off the top of my head.
I like the AAA indies ;P
For real i like the upperclass ones like Battleblock, Castle Crashers, Limbo, Bastion, Journey etc The ones that actually seem to get marketed and backed behind publishers.
Other than that no.
Honestly, I'm sure in your mind that is a diverse list of games. Unfortunately, the gaming experience has been reduced to these staples in the last decade as the HD consoles have taken over. That's why more than ever we need the indie games to come along and release fresh ideas where they can afford to make mistakes.
I sort of loathe both extreme ends of the spectrum these days. Cheap, half-assed indie games with low replayability for being cheap and half-assed with low replayability, and huge AAA blockbusters for having stupidly bloated budgets and thus having unrealistic sales goals and being scared shitless of experimenting with anything conceptually exciting. Obviously there are exceptions (like Bioshock, Portal and the Arkham games on one end, and Banished, Castle Crashers and The Binding of Isaac on the other), but for me, middle-class games are where it's really at. (of course, games like that pretty much Critically Endangered outside of Steam nowadays.)
