Forums - Gaming Discussion - South Park Stick Of Truth Censorship.

By now everyone has likely heard about the censorship in the new South Park game in Europe and Australia, (despite them having an AO rating for games too severe for a M rating). I'm not going to bitch, I'll just say this...

...the Playstation 3 is region free. Who are the morons who thought gamers wouldn't just import the game from USA... or worse. This is the problem with trying to control your consumer, they will rebel, and South Park fans are jaded enough to do it and tell you to your face. The amount of people pirating the US version of this game on PC is incredible; there's already over 1200 people seeding torrents on PirateBay, (oh and yes, I checked PirateBay, from here in the UK, because fuck the government telling me what websites I'll go on and their blocks are piss-poor. My kung fu is strong, theirs is weak). Gamers are known for being computer literate, all this will do is increase piracy of the game.

I wonder, who do they think they're effecting by doing this?

Don't you think things would have been even worse if the game was region-locked?

Still waiting for that article saying South Park is the cause of Russia trying to take over Ukraine

I don't understand why the anal stuff is a problem in Europe and not in the US... US television has censorship, but you can say whatever you want in most European countries. Evil Jared shows his dick all  the time and it's not censored...
The censorship of swastikas in Germany and Austria is understandable because they are forbidden.

German and Australian laws are the cause of this. Ubisoft doesn't deem it worthy to make two PAL versions.

Censoring was solely Ubisoft's decision. This is what PEGI had to say about the issue
"Its spokesman said: ‘The game was assessed by us and deemed acceptable for a Pegi 18 rating. For some games released in the UK, we are obliged to consider UK legislation as the Video Recordings Act 2010 currently affects video games. This consideration applies to games that are likely to attain a Pegi 12, 16 or 18 rating and which may contain potentially harmful or illegal material. As there was no such issue with the game, it was duly given its Pegi 18 uncut."

You don't seem to know how many Germans are still dependent on German language releases. They don't care about censorship. They just want their German game.
I know it's silly.

Which means if it was ONLY the UK getting the game, there would be no censorship, but like people have said Germany and Australia have stupid laws concerning the swastika and depictions of anal penetration, and we're all getting the same version in PAL regions. I don't care, I'll just import the US version, (actually, I'm not a big fan of South Park, so I may not bother at all), but I just don't see how these laws or this censorship helps anyone in any way.
