Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft angers early adopters by offering free ‘Forza 5'

When you buy a platform at launch, this is the sort of risk you take. Platform holders giving early adopters any sort of concession is extremely rare. The only instance I can think of is Nintendo giving out free digital downloads to 3DS early adopters.

LOL oh yeah free Knack, the lowest rated next gen game from Sony (or MS for that matter). Clearly they value the consumers.

Something is better than nothing, you hate on Knack just because you personally didn't like it, and that means its an insult giving it to Japan which is, as we all know, composed wholly of you with different hair cuts.

Of course, that's fantasy talk. They value consumers who give them money. And what better way to entice people to give them monies than by digitally bundling a shitty game that would otherwise not sell that much? And in a territory that has been declines every generation in console business. In reality, what Sony did with Japan is no different than what MS did with the Xbox One. They added value to the console to spur more sales. In each situation there are early adopters who bought the same console but got none of that bonus.

Sony did "refund" my money one time. Of course, Sony's version of a refund is where they take that money that they took off your debit/credit card, and put it back in your PSN wallet. Which means, of course, in the end, you're still stuck spending that money on their network. It's not really a refund. The last time they did this I told them I want a real actual refund or they'd lose a customer. They declined, and I haven't renewed my PS+ membership or spent a penny on PSN content since. One of the main reasons I couldn't care less about a PS4 right now, too.

That is exactly what I'm talking about. That is what you should be doing. And if they didn't learn from that then its their loss.

But then...

And when my "repaired" 360 console from MS lasted a few hours before RROD'ing again, I told them if my returned console got the RROD again they would lose me as a consumer. My return unit was a new console with an updated chip set and the RROD was no longer an issue. Maybe people just have different opinions and get upset over different things? Maybe different strokes for different folks? That almost seems too simple.

I am aware you are talking about Sony fans and MS fans. Every post I have made in reply has been from a consumer point of view. You're just looking at things through selective glasses, and that makes you wrong. Can't make it any simpler for you, and now we're veering back into the same type of conversation we were having earlier, so toodles.

I'm not telling you to excuse Sony or Nintendo, I'm telling you to hold Microsoft to the same standard. You got mad at Sony for not giving you a full refund, but you gave Microsoft a 3rd chance with RROD, why? Just like the Nintendo fans realize, all you're doing is holding Microsoft back, and when you finally realize you're the reason Xbox is still sitting at 3.9 million "shipped" because of you, because you just accepted what they did. When the real Xbox 1 brought in Online Gaming and HDDs, controllers that detached from the port so it wouldn't pull down the console, and now the Xbox One is giving us hdmi in and stuff that the 360 had.

I don't know about you, but I actually value the fact that Xbox is owned by the most stable company of the three, rather than touting it around in d00m threads, because I recognize their potential and I wouldn't be wasting my time here if I didn't like Xbox.

But here's the thing, Xbox is just reacting to the sales. The writing is not only on the wall, but its inside you're eyelids and its written on your hand. Oh wow, MS is price cutting, oh look they are giving a way free games, this is temporary, they are only trying to see how much they can get away with, and then reel it in when they fully exploited the consumers who will defend their ability to do so.

Sony got their asses kicked by consumers for less offenses, please if you think my list is biased, go ahead show me how the ps3 console was so much more evil then the xbox one when it was announced.

Now look at where we are at right now, PS is scared to death of their consumers, cause if Sony loses PS then they're d00med. Xbox is just seeing how much they can get away with.

And that was $80 off a $250 purchase after I think it was 6 months?

I pre-ordered a 3DS and the "Ambassador Program" really wasn't much of consolation when they slashed the price of the 3DS that quickly.

Actually, thinking back, it made me not want to buy the next two retail games I had been planning on buying as retribution. And that had a play in me not using the 3DS as much leading into the PSV launch, and after that happened, I essentially stopped using the 3DS because the new games I wanted to play were on my new handheld.

Sometimes things like this do bite the platform manufacturer in the ass. It also soured any enthusiasm I had for being an early Wii U adopter even though I was invited to preview the console before launch. I figured I would just wait for the first price drop which happened pretty quickly and by then, the Wii U was looking like last week's news and I had pre-ordered my PS4.

They weren't obligated to give anyone anything let along 20 free downloadable games. I bought a 3DS at launch and I was agitated by the price cut but it was the risk I took by getting the platform the day it came out.

I agree 100%.

But did it influence my decision to move my support to the PSV rather than not buy one and buy more software for the 3DS? It did 100%.

But here the most important issue should be: let's not try to get early adopters pissed-off, they're so kindly taking on their shoulders the burden of helping systems at launch, full priced and with few games, and bring them towards larger libraries and lower prices for the rest of us.

Nothing forced anyone to buy it at launch and this was bound to happen so why the hell are people surprised?
