PS4 sales hit 6 million, new era of social gameplay ushered in

As you’ve probably read by now, cumulative PS4 sales have now surpassed six million units worldwide following the successful launch in Japan just over a week ago. It’s truly humbling to see the rate at which gamers across the globe are choosing PS4 as their next gen console of choice. Even more exciting is what happens when gamers power up their PS4s. In the United States, more than 90% of PS4s are online, enabling gamers to connect, compete and share their greatness with friends and fellow gamers.

There have now been more than 3.6 million live broadcasts, and more than 56 million spectate sessions on PS4 through Twitch andUstream. In fact, since January 1st, PS4 gamers account for 20% of daily broadcasters on Twitch. PS4 owners are also embracing the Share button on the DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller, with more than 100 million shares captured as fans show friends their latest achievements on Facebook and Twitter.

And soon, you’ll be able to share your greatness in new ways. Developers are beginning to take advantage of PS4′s new interactive live broadcasting gaming features, integrating modes that allow broadcasted gameplay to become interactive for spectators. Even as a viewer, you can now influence livestreamed gameplay.

For example, Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition features a built-in Broadcast+ mode where you can stream your gameplay while viewers on the PS4 or a web browser influence positive and negative effects during gameplay. More social feedback is on the way too, with Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends Complete Edition in March and Daylight in April.

We love the enthusiasm that all of you have had for the PS4 since launch, and we can’t wait to share more great games, experiences and features with you soon. Greatness awaits!

They went through similar issues for NA and EU. Give it a month or so at least.

Sales are going to be ugly in a month or so. There's no games to drive sales anyway.

People on this board are in a for a rude, rude awakening when they see what the Japanese game industry has really become.

Will they be like this

and this

With the added problem that in the case of the Japanese launch they still need to supply EU and NA at the same time. I'm amazed at how people try to do any conclusions considering:

- Console is supply constrained in NA and EU. Japanese launch only made things worse.

- The competition with XOne is harsher in NA. Japan is a given for Sony. They will use most of the stock there were they really need it.

Not holiday.
That is all.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

What is it with people with this type of threads for a 2nd week of sales? PS4 was down 90% in it's 2nd week in NA and look how that turned out.

I seen it coming. The PS4 knack limited is now at 32 and going down on Amazon.JP The original PS4 is at 36 but is going up.

We still don't know how much stock sony has for Japan and real numbers. Also PS4 has great month in march and April with games, so we don't have worry about PS4 and we can expect it keep growing slowly once Sony fixes Stock.

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

It could be supply shortages or possibly because Wii U and Vita launched during holiday season where PS4 did not. Also they're is no compelling software to sell it right now.

That's pretty sad, it would mean that Japanese Studios will make mostly portable games :-/ given their place in the history of gaming (Nintendo, Sega, Sony!) it would be nice if they kept pushing us forward...

People kept saying that Japan moved to handheld, we will see how it turns out in the long run (apparently PS4s are easy to find in Japan, so I don't think they were supply constrained).

Some stores were reporting shortages, right? So it may be just stock issues, we'll have to wait a couple weeks to see where the baseline settles to draw conclusions.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!
