Nah, gameplay mechanics were just bad. And the platforming was just so painfully horrible. But the gameplay in 2 was so much smoother.

I'm quite surprised by this comment. I really think if there were points to criticize the original Infamous, it would be the graphics, story or the repetitive nature of some of the missions and enemies.

The gameplay was just fantastic in my opinion, it flowed so well. Quick traversal over buildings, across cable lines and on to moving trains, you could travel everywhere at speed, chain movements together, and still attack from all angles or during movements.

It was actually strongly praised for its gameplay at release:

Giant Bomb~ "Everything else would be fancy window dressing if Sucker Punch hadn't nailed the basic gameplay elements, the simple moving and shooting, as precisely as it did".

NZ Gamer~ "the soft-lock system that allows you to go exactly where you want to and land precisely where you intended is genre-defining."

Level7 ~"The controls are flawless"

Gametrailers ~"Fluid, genre-crossing gameplay"

IGN AU "the movement and combat mechanics are fantastic"

I remember going back to Assassins Creed at the time, after playing Infamous, and being shocked at how poor the platforming was in comparison. It just felt so slow and robotic. (It has admittedly improved since).

I'm happy to see SS doing so good after Infamous 2 didn't sell so well. Hopefully it reviews well and finds a new fan base to add to it's existing one.
