Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is the Wii U gaining respect as the next gen progresses ?

I wouldn't say more respect, maybe deeper understanding of what it is and isn't. The people who want the device know what they are in store for, but we shouldn't be so stern in trying to predict the future of these devices.

Can't we all just get along. If not for yourself, do it for the future.

If software was so good, it'd be selling better than it is. To answer the ? No. It's still the laughing stock of this gen.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

I think every company (Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft) has been a laughing stock this gen. Lol

With that said, Nintendo is looking better in my eyes.

I'd say yes and no. Nintendo has certain strengths that haven't really been brought to the front yet in terms of people and decisions being made with console dollars. The backward compatibility of both controllers and games really can help although Nintendo isn't helping matters by discontinuing services.

We are seeing this in the cell industry as well and the point is that with mature systems in place with regard to say engines and development tools, the same old experience only with MORE.... resolution, polygons, etc. has a limited return. Call of Duty Ghosts, Titanfall, etc. really haven't generated a huge buzz. It's much like how folks have cheered on Samsung against Apple and have now seen the S5 and the collective reaction is BLAH. PS4 is the best experience for a certain type of gaming but that type of gaming requires such an investment and type of exclusivity that the returns are diminishing in terms of entertainment for dollar spent.

PS4 has grabbed all the early hardcore early adopter dollars. Some of the costs over time though will limit options though. The additional headsets, controllers, online play etc all will add up and of course the fact that all the PS3 materials need to be maintained to keep the prior investments are an additional expense.

The Wii U is a different experience and it is very economical. The bundling occurring already allows a pretty decent return on the dollar and again being able to repurpose controllers and games just stretches that return even more. I think that people in the states want their FPS shooter experience in 1080p. However when pondering a different experience the WiiU just keeps showing up with great games and no massive costs in terms of online play, etc.

Wii U will never earn the respect of some individuals - simply because they have a fervent hate for nintendo. One only needs to look at all the crybabies that give Nintendo and platinum game flack for making Bayonetta 2 a Wii u exclusive

Who you kidding with that.

PS4 is best gaming of any kind, iv spent as much time on resogun as any full PS4 title.  Im gonna enjoy the hell out of Strike suit xero and itll only be $20.  It the best value for your $ on the market.

I bet the wiiu out sells xbone this gen

VITA 32 GIG CARD.250 GIG SLIM & 160 GIG PHAT PS3

The thing is, the Wii U nor any Nintendo system after the SNES will ever be respected because of the hardcore gamers nowadays. Even if the Wii U sells 100 mil and has exclusive rights to CoD and AC it will never be respected simply because it is Nintendo. The only way Nintendo can ever be respected again is if they make a new military FPS with a great campaign and multiplayer modes like CoD and environment like BF4 with weapons and vehicles like in Halo. Not just an FPS, but an open world game like GTA. NOT JUST THAT TOO but a racing game like Gran Turismo and Need For Speed, but finally real sports games. So the only way for Nintendo to be respected relies on 2 things:

1) They acquire Rockstar, Acti, Ubi, and Take Two.
OR
2) Nintendo becomes an all out powerhouse in software and hardware. They make games of all genres.

All I want at the moment is Miyamotos new IP or Retros new game to be a military FPS like the one I described.

Oh and I am qlso a proud Wii U owner

respect is a loose term. but no. How about seriously? thats a no too and IMHO that is the WIi U's biggest problem, hell it might Ninty's biggest problem

The wiiu will never be respected this gen. But that doesnt mean it wont be respectable.
