I have no shame, every time I went to a Target or a Walmart and saw the PS3/PSV demo kiosk, I would go straight for the Guacamelee demo. It was totally awesome for the 5 minutes I got to play it each time.

The fact that it's in line with Metroidvania got me curious, and the awesome impressions from our Sony pals got my mouth watering.

Based on the first 44 ballots of points, here are some preliminary results, Note that I expect about 30 more ballots over the next three or so weeks, meaning that results can change drastically.

Out of the 660 points so far:

  • 238 are for the Wii U
  • 182 are for the PS3 and PS4 combined
  • 145 are for the Xbox One
  • 56 are for handhelds
  • 39 are for the PC

The top couple of games are, as usual, the Wii U trinity of Mario kart 8, Super Smash Bros 4, and X, though X is not as far ahead as usual. The real story so far this month, however, is the Xbox One.

When I posted last month's results, I said, and I quote, "If the Xbone reaches over 100 points at any point this year, it should be considered a victory." Well, as you can plainly see above, the Xbox One has well more than 100 points, even with weeks left to vote. Furthermore, out of the Top 10 skus at the moment, four of them are Xbox One skus; in no particular order, Destiny, Halo 5, Quantum Break, and Sunset Overdrive all made the Top 10 under the Xbone banner. See Xbox fans, you can make a difference in this feature. In fact, if we do a pure 8th gen comparison, the One got more points than the PS4 so far this month, even though Titanfall is a March release.

So, the Wii U continues to lead, the One came out of nowhere to achieve a spot in this feature, and even both PlayStation consoles are doing decently enough, despite their competing with each other. All three 8th gen consoles have 100+ points, and the PS3 will likely end up with a similar number. That said, I am worried about the PC and handhelds.

The PC, 3DS, and VIta combined are less than the PS4, the Xbone, or the Wii U. The PC is lacking some of the multiplatform games that gave it strength as of last month, including Titanfall, but the lack of handheld strength can only be attributed to a sparse upcoming list of games. The entire Top 20 skus lack a single handheld game.

So, what handheld games are there getting votes? Well, the Vita has Danganropa 2, the 3DS has Kirby, Mario Golf, and Persona Q, and Conception 2 is doing decently if you combine platforms. But that's a total of only five games of any note. And none of these games are exactly big either; all the Vita and 3DS games combined would not even reach the Top 3 skus.

tl;dr Xbone is shockingly good, Handhelds are shockingly not.

Love and tolerate.

Gotta give some credit to Shika, he's the one that brought this thread to most of our attention.
