Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why doesn't Nintendo advertise the Wii U?

Wii U comercials are harder to find than new copies of Xenoblade, and it begs the question of why? Speculation abound, does Nintendo not see it as cost effective? Do they feel the system is dead in the water, and the cost of advertising would be negligible at best. Is it a case of arrogance in that they feel the brand carries itself? If I had a product that was struggling I would make it to where you couldn't watch tv without seeing a couple of advertisements for it. Whether it actually gave it much of a boost or not at this point it definitely wouldn't hurt it. What do y'all think?

"Games are a trigger for adults to again become primitive, primal, as a way of thinking and remembering. An adult is a child who has more ethics and morals, that's all. When I am a child, creating, I am not creating a game. I am in the game. The game is not for children, it is for me. It is for an adult who still has a character of a child."

the war is over, no point them wasting money. They already tried and people still think its a wii addon.

I heard DKTF had lots of advertisement though I don't watch tv so I can't confirm that myself

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

They are too busy with the Vita you know.  http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=179200&page=1

They did advertise quite a bit over the holidays, but I think they stopped now. I think honestly they're not going to spend any more money on the Wii U than they have to, it's not worth it.

Who knows, they had great advertising during the Wii era.

Nintendo doesn't advertise as much because A. It costs money and hurts budgets more then seeing a system drag for a year. 2. Nintendo has been making video game for more then 30 years and I rarely have seen them advertise as much as their competitor, aka Word or Mouth is better for the long run. I remember when Sega was advertising it was way more then Nintendo and killed the company plain and simple.

I think Iwata forgot how to do things. It shouldn't be too hard to sell a system that nobody knows about right?

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Nintendo advertising depends on how much money they pay this company:

In 2006 Nintendo payed them 200 million USD and said: "Here's our new product. Market it for us".

They surely know by now that it's not the latter, so I'd have to say the former seems more likely. There hasn't really been any software that would push consoles, so what's the point? They'll probably just muddle along this way until Smash and Mario Kart come out. I'd expect a big advertising push then.
