Forums - Sony Discussion - If Sony/SSM announce God of War 4 this year, would you buy it?

Fuck yeah, day 1 baby!!! One of my favourite franchises of all time, favourite gameplay mechanics!

GoW 4 with Kratos, reboot, doesn't matter, keep the gameplay, make it epic, I will love it to death!

Cory Barlog on the project I feel it. GoW 2 was my favourite, so he has no choice pretty much, it has to be his project!

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

Around the Network

I would still buy it

I'm not really a fan of the series, so prob no.

Yes, i cant wait for god of war online 2

YES! Day 1! I cant wait to get into another GoW game on the PS4!

I love GoW, but since Sony axed a quarter of SSM staff CJ be not happy with Sony studios.
So no, absolutely not. Give us GoW 4 in the next 1-2 years and you'll get sales equivalent to Ascension.

If it's the Greek mythologi again. No ,otherwise very much likely yes.

Haha... what if its roman mythology? Saint seiya did that. It can get pretty confusing. xD

A God Of War around the norse mythology would be my biggest wish!

I hate to break it to you but new IPs are cancelled all the time, or completely altered into something else. Sometimes they end up being re-worked into new sequal/spin-offs of existing franchises. Sometimes, sequels to old franchises turn into a new IP (This has happened with Resident Evil on a number of occasions). That's just the nature of the business. Santa Monica is a big studio with multiple projects going on at once. If they cancel a project, especially one that was 3.5 years in development, it was for a good reason. Perhaps the director couldn't get things moving, perhaps he wasn't producing results, perhaps the game was horrible when the time came to present for a certain deadline. We know nothing except that it was a Sci-Fi game.

You also have to remember that this has an impact on their other projects. This could lead to more resources put into those other games turning out better or releasing faster. They've also confirmed that the assets created for the title are still stored (of course) and will probably be updated and used if they ever visit a sci-fi project again. Just because one of their games in development is probably a God of War game, doesn't mean that they're against new IPs. Additionally, we don't know what's in store for the new GoW. It may be a whole new take on the franchise. It's insane to completely disregard a game before we know anything about it.

I could go on, but plain and simple, we didn't gain or lose anything from the recent Santa Monica news. How good will their next game be is just as much of a mystery as it was before the news.

Very very informative and on point rebuttal, I can respect that. I also know the game assets are being kept and stored but with Sony it will likely get locked in the vault and thats that. (Looking at the Getaway as an example) Maybe your right and I am jumping the gun here but in the past few years I have come to really appreciate the new ip and risks Sony has taken to ensure they get released. With Sony's current financial status, I just don't want to see everything get pushed aside in favor of yet another GoW when so many collections have been released. Looking at this weeks news of this cancelled IP and Sony wanting to do a Spiderman movie every year I don't want that trend spilling into the gaming side of things. Regardless, we'll see what happens in the coming year(s) anyways, thank you for your insight though.  :)

Woah! Didn't know about the Spider-Man news. That's definitely alarming.

4 ≈ One

I dont mind a new God of War. But they need to mix it up to keep the franchise fresh.

I guess we all assume that a new IP will automatically be fresh and new but there are high chances that a new IP could be very derivative and stale.

If they stick with the same God of War formula then I will be less excited...but will probably still buy it as im sure the visuals will be insane.
