Forums - Gaming Discussion - Verizon CEO Wants To Charge Video Gamers More Money For Internet Access

It's been happening to phones for years. "hey check out this new phone! it does everything urs does only MORE and BETTER and FASTER! but we're also gonna put a data limit on it, so make sure you do the MORE and BETTER and FASTER stuff sparingly!

Home Internets is the same. Now that we're used to faster speeds, lets limit those speeds so you get less use out of that service you're already paying a premium for.

I love FIOS, I hate Verizon. I think this would be enough to make me go back to Charter.

Yeah, well McAdam can go fuck himself.

Google Fiber can't come soon enough...

“It’s only natural that the heavy users help contribute to the investment to keep the Web healthy,” McAdam explained during the call. “That is the most important concept of net neutrality.”

Yeah um, don't these same CEO's object to tax increases upon them, as some kind of socialist plot to take away all their money? And yet...now they want to interject this 'plot' into bandwidth? Irony is so ironic.

Oh F-off Verizon. The U.S. already pays way too much the internet as it is.

Also, there is no way this is a "people who use the internet more should pay more" This is a "were going to raise prices, starting with people who use the internet the most."

The U.S pays nothing compared to the majority of the world.

I can only see this going poorly. People are already picky enough in the U.S. about service prices. Spike the Internet cost for gamers and you see them flock to another ISP that doesn't use the same practice. End up losing more money than gaining.

And which would that be? Especially since large regions of the country have few, if any, choices in ISPs...

I don't live in the US but I can feel your pain. T.T

That's mainly because the rest of the world you're referring to, isn't as covered in broadband as the US.  However, if you compare the countries with US level broadband access or higher, yes, the US on average pays more per month for connectivity.  And it's mainly because the Federal Government has contracts with the biggest telecomm providers in the country (Time Warner, ATT, Verizon, Comcast etc...), which makes it impossible (or close too it) for smaller startups to gain any headway in States.

Well, for me, it's Comcast.  I hate the company, but their internet access isn't terrible.

I would imagine for a large portion of areas there are at least one or two alternatives.  Regardless of this, I think they are making a mistake.

You know what the worst part is? There is a cheaper, faster, and more reliable alternative that telecomm providers are fighting tooth and nail to stop.
