Forums - PC Discussion - AMD r9 270x or NVIDIA GTX 760?

Just as the title says.

i'm going to build a mid-speced rig over the summer, and i kinda need some help choosing a GPU. My budget for the gpu is 300$ at the most (i just got a raise), though if i could keep it closer to 200$, i would be very happy. Seeing as i bought a ps4, gaming isn't going to be main priority of the pc (except for the total war series), but i would like to be able to run games like Titanfall, and crysis on 1080p, high settings. Also, while i originally wanted to put a 270x in the system, the freaking miners have inflated the prices of AMD's cards SO much. primarily, the PC is going to be a media hub for all the movies and music i've accumulated over the years, it will be used to edit video, and i would like to try my hand a 3d rendering and coding.

Vs

OP note, i did manage to find a 270x on newegg for 240$, but i still wanna know what you guys think.

Ahh.. so that's perhaps why there's also been shortages in the past 6 months of Radeon R9 cards too? The bitcoin miners?

Personally I am looking for a Radeon R9 290 (a version with custom fans), but for a while I considered the 280X, but then ppl said it's just an overclocked 7970.

yeah, from what i've gathered doing my research, miners have been buying up all Amd's cards. As a result, the cards i can find are so horribly overpriced compared the actual performance, and the competition.

The GTX 760 packs a little more punch, but costs nearly 50% more...

But since it's still in your price range, I don't see a problem there.

So the GTX is the better bet? What about the price to performance ratio? while i have stated my budget, as i said before, i would love to keep it closer to 200$...

If you want to use it to edit videos and as a media hub, I'd go with the 760 as Nvidia cards are quieter than AMD. I'm talking about the reference coolers, with 3rd party ones, the difference is almost none.

Both are good cards that will serve you well.

If price to perfomrance ratio is important, then the r9 760X is a better value. You can find it for around that price target of 200$ if your look around enough. =)

Watch this comparison and then judge which one is worth its price

thanks for that link. it appears that the GTX is slightly more powerful, but not powerful enough to justify the higher price, i'd rather go with the cheaper option (i'm going to college in the fall). thanks for the help sir!
