You're mixing financials with marketshare, I'm afraid. Doesn't work like that. To reach 50% marketshare is strictly about sales. In that regard, unless the most catastrophic drop in gaming history is to occur, I don't think the PS4 has anything to worry about.

OT: 50% is a given, now. The question is when? It could be by Christmas, but definitely no later than Q1 2015.

He said PS, not Sony, so it doesn't matter if he's talking about financials or marketshare, he's wrong either way.

Oh, I know. Just trying to help him out here.

So what? The point is Sony is still in trouble no matter what way you slice it. Finding comfort in negating isn't really helpful. Sales mean nothing if there is no profit. They can coorelate but that isn't happening here.

So when Sony starts profiting (due to the massive yen depreiciation) whats going to be the line of thinking?  They are still in trouble but not as before?

You are off topic, we are talking about Consoles market Share. If you wanna debate about financial, go to another Thread.

Yeah but it won't be for long. PS has much more to worry about that marketshare. It's just a number. Looks in this case are very deceiving. It's sad but true.

Would you mind giving a reason for why the looks are decieving? What does PS have to worry about?

He can't give you a viable reason because there is not one.  the PS4 will get all the multiplats, better versions of them and their slate of games that will moves systems.  So he has to put up the false front of Sony's financial state to downplay the upcoming achievement.

I'm simply trying to bring reality to light. I have a PS and I'm a PS fan second to Nintendo if not even. People want to hear what they want to hear and that's just not how conversations work. Yeah, I might not have a masters in economics but I understand the premise a bit. I had no idea people could be so defensive. What matters most about a console is how much money it makes. If it isn't doing anything for the company to post profit, there is work to be done. The same happened with Wii U. They were in trouble too as they kept posting losses. After Sony's loss, one could not help but wonder if PS4 had anything to do with it because it seemed as if it shoudln't becuase it was and is kiling the competition. I'm just a postman, don't kill the messenger.

Sony being in trouble has nothing to do with the topic (marketshare). Furthermore, the PlayStation Division, afaik, is making the company money. So it's a bad assessment any way you put it.

So if I were in a different topic, it would be more or less true? I understand, please no further replies. Marketshare, and I'm talking divisons, sorry. The thing is, nobody posts threads of that type so it is easy to get confused. Profit threads are rarely regarded even though they matter most. Njoy your thread.

Why the hell would you wonder if the PS4 imposed losses when Sony releases earnings breakdowns for each division within the company and the PS segment was profitable?

That's what happens when you go around spreading mis-information...

Last off-topic post I'll post in this thread.

This would probably require ps4 getting 60%+ of the sales on black Friday and I doubt they will get 40%. Nintendo is going to sell insane on black Friday I predict.

Wut?

dat.

A Year has passed since my initial prediction and with Sony's announcement of 20.2M SOLD THROUGH as of March 1st, it looks like PS4 is less than 1% away from 50% . Looks to be imminent, especially with Bloodborne, MGSV and U4 all coming this year.

Yup its pretty much inevitible, or it might already be the case.  At this point it would be more difficult to explain how the PS4 doesn' acheive 50%
