I think they'll announce big japanese games at TGS, that will help a lot Japan sales for christmas

I believe by January 2015, Ps4 should comfortable take at least 50% marketshare. This was such a focal point of the Wii era that ALMOST came to pass but never happened. 


There is no question about it. PS4's market share will stand way past 50%, around 60%.

Its 8th Generation cumulative market share has increased from 34.3% to 42.6% in the first 6 months of 2014. Its 2014 annual market share is 58.4% (in the first 6 months).

I'm not so sure if it can do it by Jan 15`, but it will be a close call. Maybe Q1 15 is a more likely window. I'll come back to this thread in December or before if the 50% threshold is almost breached.

I think they'll have some good announcements at TGS as well but those won't help the PS4 in Japan until they actually release. Anything being announced as late as TGS is probably not going to be a current year release.


I think that help because people will buy it at christmas knowing these games are coming in first months of 2015 ( but if it's too close from 2015 christmas, they'll wait for next christmas)

A lot of people, you included, seem too misunderstand the difference here. Launches aligned, the PS3 was always ahead of the xbox 360, but since it launched a year earlier it had a big headstart. The PS3 didn't sell really bad in it's first year compared to the 360s first year, it was just behind in total sales, while the Xbox one and the PS4 launched equally and it's  still being outsold horribly. You can't compare them.

Interesting to see where PS4 stands as at October once adjustments come in. Still the holiday season to go yet too. It's at 46.6% prior to npd adjustments. October , November and December is going to insane for PS4 .

The Wii had solid competition in PS3 and XBox 360 that both picked up in sales and ended up selling over 80 million consoles.. Wii struggled to 100 million console sales after a selling 60+ million in its first 3 years on the market.
PS4s competition in XBox One and Wii U are really struggling. Within a year the PS4 has doubled the XBox One sales. Wii U is selling at a much slower rate than the XBox One and had a year head start on both the XBox One and PS4.

By the end of this generation PS4 will sell 100 to 120 million consoles. PS4 market share will be 50 to 60%.

XBox One and Wii U will sell a combined 80 to 100 million to make up the remaining 40 to 50% market share.

PS4 has plenty of first party titles, it has strong sales momentum on its side to heavily outsell its competitors continually for 8 to 10 years on the market.

The PS4 continues to impress. 50% marketshare is definitely possible. Remember, the only way to keep the share from rising is for it to be outsold. If the Xbox One is unable to outsell the PS4, the share of PS4s will rise.
