BenVTrigger said: The biggest advantage resolution has in video games is the higher the resolution the more easily it smooths out aliasing isssues. 1080p is going to be MUCH better in this regard than 720p or even 900p though the difference between 900 and 1080 is rather small. Resolution is a much bigger deal than many in this thread are saying. Im not sure its on purpose though as I think most people struggle with understanding image quality in general and what to look for. Many times I've seen someone say a game with vastly inferior image quality looks "better" than the higher fidelity image. This usually comes down to art style and setting, but personally I just can't stand bad image quality in general anymore, and its the biggest turn off for me in terms of graphics. I would much rather trade off some effects for great anti aliasing and high resolutions. |
Rather small?
900p is WAY closer to 720p than 1080p

I game reguraly at 4k. The difference between 900p and 1080p in comparison is rather negligable. Does it make a difference? Hell yes give me a regular native res 1080p game any day. Or better yet a downsampled from 4k 1080p image. But consoles aren't anywhere near capable of something like that.
When I play a console I expect far less from them so yes to me 900p is pretty close to 1080p from what I'm used to.

I just do not think anyone who has gamed at 900p and 1080p could call them "negligable" there is a massive difference.
720p and 900p are "negligable" but 900p and 1080p are not.

Ok again to someone who games strictly on consoles yes it may very well be a "massive differrence". To PC gamers who are used to higher resolutions its really not.
Again, I'm not disagreeing that 1080p is vastly preferrable. It is. At the same time even standard 1080p is low to me now days and looks fuzzy as hell. Thats my point, depending what your eye is trained on the differences become bigger. TO ME anything under 1080p is god awful in games but that doesn't mean it ACTUALLY is to the vast majority of consumers.
And I'll add a game can still look beautiful with a terrible resolution. I thought Ryse was a GREAT looking game, but it does bother me now days to see low resolutions now that I'm used to my PC.
