Damn, when people will stop with this shit... leave FF7 alone. Square, better this is not true, or I don't give a crap about FFXV in that case.

You didn't know? Sqaure Enix doesn't care about anyone anymore.

They do what they want, when they want.

They care about my money, so I'm not buying this hypothetical remake or FFXV at launch :P

I do think something VII related will be released in 2017 for its 20th anniversary. Not the remake per say, but maybe the sequel to Dirge. The ending to that game leaves room for more in the VII universe.

VII of all entries could use a true sequel. Dirge was more of a Spin off, yet the idea of the universe having a failsafe system just like Earth and Omega Weapon are cool concepts.

I always wanted a sequel where we get to learn more of Jenova's orgins. How did she come to landing on earth in the first place? Where the hell does she come from? How can the human race be rid of the parasite(and Sephiroth) for good?

With a Sequel SE could give us the more FFVII universe that everyone really wants in HD, and also be allowed to freely update the combat system to suite a different world.

Of course they can be ranked, but with a high level of subjectivity. You say FFXIII has broken combat, to me it's one of the best gameplay I saw in a modern RPG. It is fluid and challenging even against mobs, you can't just go and press the attack command while doing something else against mobs. The leveling system was interesting and permitted a nice customization, depending on your playstyle. I hated FFVIII tough.

But any post IV FF have some common ground :

Great OST (anyone saying One winged Angel never listened to Dancing Mad <3 (half joke))

Great design, especially on monsters and environement, while character design is subjective (I hate both amano and Yoshida, while I am a big fan of Nomura's work)

The game revolves around a good/great storyline in a complex universe, with elements of both Scifi and Fantasy (And some prefers the emphasis on fantasy (X), or scifi (XIII) )

Big budget and impressive tech in their time (FFVII = 3D, X = facial animation, ...)

So despite everyone having preferences, these game have a lot in common and the same staff behind them, wich makes them all at least good, objectively.

And popularity has nothing to do with being a great game or not. Most FFVII popularity came from the fact it was the first big 3D RPG. Impressive tech can sell a meh game.

A good example would be Rayman Legends. It is objectively better than Origins : Same gameplay, design but better Res, animations, and above all content. It didn't prevent Legends from a big fat flop, due to bad advertising and bad release date.

I really wish people would stop using the "Oh it must of been your first if its your favorite" excuse. Its not nearly as wide spread as many want to think. And even if it was many's first.........does that somehow invalidate its appeal to them? I saw and played FFI way before I got FFVII, I couldn't bare the graphics of those games back then. When I tried my bro's friend's PS1 FFVII I was in love with it from jump. Didn't fully understand it till years later tho, after I had played almost all of them up to X.

I also played Persona 3 before P4, and I most assuredly prefer P4 to the former.Does it play on a lot of what P3 built? Sure, but its so much more fine tuned in P4 that its a better game. I don't think most people's opinion is predicated on which they played first (other than maybe graphical appeal).

Now to the subjective argument..........

One Winged Angel >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dancing Mad...........and every other boss theme in the entire series. to say otherwise is not only blasphemy but complete nonsense :P lol

I have rarely liked any individual game's full soundtrack, usually I pick a few favorites between them. FFVII carries most of my favorites. Aerith's Theme, Battle Theme, Motorcycle Chase Theme, Jenova Absolute, O.W.A.

I also really love Kuja's final Fight, Zanarkand Theme, FFXIII's battle theme, Jecht Final Aeon

No, no. The difference is, is that SE is evil.

I forgot to mention that crucial part.

My point here wasn't that it was the first you played, but that it featured an impressive tech at the time, and that gave it more attention it should (A lot of people played it while not being interested in J-RPG). Just like I wouldn't have been interested in Uncharted 2 if it hadn't the best graphics on ps3 at the time, cause I have no interest in TPS.

What other J-RPG series do you play ? (FF and Persona aside)

FFVII is still owning on PSN by being in the top 10 PSone classic download since it came out on it in 2009, beating the other Final Fantasy's

CPU: Ryzen 7950X
GPU: MSI 4090 SUPRIM X 24G
Motherboard: MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 32GB DDR5
SSD: Kingston FURY Renegade 4TB
Gaming Console: PLAYSTATION 5

This whole Squeenix is evil talk is dumb. Squeenix has lost alot of its talent and its not what it used to be, but if you are an FFXIV player, Squeenix is not evil at all. They are extremely kind and commited.
The whole game remade to make it up to the fans, the fattests content patches i have ever seen every 3-4 months (completely blows WoW out of the water), with expansions already confirmed and alot of fan feedback beeing incorporated into the game.

Yeah their FFXIII team sucks donkey and should be fired but the new FFXIV team is a godsend. Naoki Yoshida really knows his stuff. Nomura led teams also usually deliver really good games (kingdom hearts).

Did you know that FFXIV telegraphs now look just like Wildstar? He has been 1 upping wildstar before its even out. I never seen such commitment to a game. I have no doubt thats why its increasing in sub numbers.

I've played my share of the early ones. Xenogears(I love the combat but I feel like THIS series is so far overrrated story wise) and Xeonosaga, Chrono Trigger/Cross, Legend of Legaia, Star Ocean(one of my favs), Dark Cloud series,Pokemon, Golden Sun.

I had known of Nintendo....but didn't care for anything I saw on the systems eally. It wasn't until the Sega Genesis came along that I even owned a console. Sonic and Art of Fighting were like the only games I ever owned on it. I really wouldn't have called myself a gamer then still. My friend had a Nintendo and he would bring it over. This was how I was exposed to FF originally.......I just wasn't impressed. Admittedly, the graphical flare of FFVII and PS1 era games really caught my eye. Graphics are not everything but they are a valid enough selling point. PS1 and FFVII turned me into a true gamer and thats not a side effect rather a testament of their appeal.

If FFXV comes and many start to say that is the best ever are we going to just chop that up to the fact it will be the best graphically and the first to show full on action combat? Yes, the game has these features because of advancement in tech but is it not a better game for it?
