Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Donkey Kong Tropical freeze..better than SM3DW???

It's my Game of the Year 2014, so far, not that it's saying much, since it's February. I don't think it's better than 3D World, though.

I have been playing with my brother and it has been a very monotonous experience so far. Definitely not up to par with 3D World.

Top 10 Games of All Time

1. The Last of Us, 2. Journey, 3. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, 4. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, 5. Bioshock Infinite, 6. Zelda: Twilight Princess, 7. Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, 8. Super Smash Bros. Brawl, 9. Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword, 10. Starcraft

Add me on PSN. Thanks.

Well to be more on topic.

It's still too early to say for me, even then I think its kinda hard to compare a co-op 2.5d platformer to a 1-4 player 3D platformer.

Still only half way thru world 4 myself, and of course there is still hard mode.

i like 3dworld more. but i like 3d plattformer more so thats not a big deal. the game is fantastic. 2nd best dkc game.

I will say this about Tropical Freeze. The gameplay and levels themselves are amazing. If I was grading it just on Gameplay and Graphics I would give it a 10/10. The amount of hidden stuff is awesome. Finding hidden levels, collecting tough moving around bananas, it's just great. The levels themselves are also very well designed and are a great challenge, even for someone like me who has played pretty much every platformer to come out in the last 20 years. That being said I think the overall presentation is my biggest knock on the game. The menus are very standard and come off almost like an indie title, just very basic. It doesn't have stamps which were a welcome addition to NES Remix and SM3DW. It is just lacking alot of the little features that made games like NSMBU and Pikmin so great, like challenge modes. It does have a video replay mode of other players which is a big plus in my book. Overall I would say 9/10. One of the best platformers ever, just lacking in the extras department that would have convinced me to give it a 10.

I would have given SM3DW a 9.5.   I like 2D better then 3D platformers but the multiplayer puts SM3DW over the top in my opinion.    I think the design of the Retro version DKC levels just makes multi-player extremely hard.  It's one of the only games I can honestly say that multiplayer is actually a negative in my book.  Your buddy ends up getting in the way more then helping.

I'll be getting it early next week, can't wait to experience it; it'll be my first DKC game, ever.

3D World was glorious - if it's better, or even on par, then wow.

It isn't! Its old school platformer and you get killed unfairly with hazards you have no chance of avoiding.

I'd say all of my +100 deaths in the game have been my own fault.

Define hazards that you cannot avoid?

I haven't played Tropical Freeze yet but I can imagine it being something like Dark Souls where everyone bitches about how insanely hard and sadistic the game is when in reality they just suck at it.

Funny how some Playstation/Xbox guys come in here and claim the game's rubbish. Keep hatin' peepz!

It's a solid 2d platformer. But it's no where near Super mario 3d world level of perfection in my opinion.

Predictions for LT console sales:

PS4: 120M

XB1: 70M

WiiU: 14M

3DS: 60M

Vita: 13M

Idk because I haven't play either (though I'm going to get DKC), but if Miyamoto sees this thread, he's going to go atomic.
