I will say this about Tropical Freeze. The gameplay and levels themselves are amazing. If I was grading it just on Gameplay and Graphics I would give it a 10/10. The amount of hidden stuff is awesome. Finding hidden levels, collecting tough moving around bananas, it's just great. The levels themselves are also very well designed and are a great challenge, even for someone like me who has played pretty much every platformer to come out in the last 20 years. That being said I think the overall presentation is my biggest knock on the game. The menus are very standard and come off almost like an indie title, just very basic. It doesn't have stamps which were a welcome addition to NES Remix and SM3DW. It is just lacking alot of the little features that made games like NSMBU and Pikmin so great, like challenge modes. It does have a video replay mode of other players which is a big plus in my book. Overall I would say 9/10. One of the best platformers ever, just lacking in the extras department that would have convinced me to give it a 10.
I would have given SM3DW a 9.5. I like 2D better then 3D platformers but the multiplayer puts SM3DW over the top in my opinion. I think the design of the Retro version DKC levels just makes multi-player extremely hard. It's one of the only games I can honestly say that multiplayer is actually a negative in my book. Your buddy ends up getting in the way more then helping.
