A mix of:
1. PS3 price and difficult to program for architecture
2. microsoft limiting Japanse devs' audience by making their game exclusive on 360 that didnt sell.

How absurd is that statement? The only multiplat made exclusive to 360 at one time was Tales of Vesperia.

Japanese devs are to blame for their short sightness in business making decisions.

Indie developers can make better business in the West than corporations in Japan. Shovel Knight devs made or will make more money than probably Namco with Tales of.

Thats why they are still indie games while tales of is in retail and digital, because they make more money? nope they dont

They're still indies because they make more money for themselves. Digital titles bring more profit to small developers than if they were retail releases.

Why would they look for a publisher anyway just to cut into their revenue?

I'm curious in the hardware and software sales when Star Ocean, street fighter and FFXV release and what it'll do, if sales go back to mediocre after these three games then I give up on Japan.

They corner themselves by not using Xbox or WiiU to expand their userbase.

They might rake little by little sales on Xbox but it will only grow, plus the porting costs are low and the porting itself is easier this time around.

Actually with the sales of the PS4 being more then both combined on the average week and with the shape of the xbox one in Japan; I can see this continueing and will only increase. And as they compare RPG sales like FF0 and others as they come it will only make their choice seem more right.

Also I think there is probaly a gun shyness when it comes to Japanese game companies and Xbox consoles now from last gen.

Star ocean 4 (tempory), Lost Oddyssey and Blue Dragon (both maybe paid for developmet by microsoft), Eternal sonata (timed), Infinite Undiscovery and their was many others that i'd have to look up.

Maybe someone else can add to the list.

Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon are MS IPs as they help form Sakaguchi's Mistwalker.

Infinite Undiscovery was a forgettable game.

Meaning the lack of sales for their games in Japan on the xbox (their strongest market) hurt the companies and they would rather play it safe and launch on a console that sells better in Japan and the world.

i would want to say yes, especially after seeing how many Japanese games have been announced and released since the PS4 first year and now in its second year, maybe the PS3 having a hard time last gen affected japanese console gaming more than i thought.

apparently woken up from it, since the ps4 just virtually sold twice as much in japan alone for week ending 21st march, as xbox sold in europe.

I am thrilled to see this since JRPGs are my favorite type of game.

A major part of the problem was developers not following the market itself.

When that problem is addressed and then fixed, you will see what the Japanese market is really capable of. A home console that will hold mainline titles in Star Ocean, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Metal Gear, Resident Evil and numerous other games with a big appeal to the JP market will do great things for the industry there.

The problem with Wii, PS3 and 360 was a fractured market. We no longer have that.

Edit - How did I not see this thread is over a Year old?

Isn't that short sighted? I actually would say "console that sells better in Japan", because X360 sold better in the first & second(UK) biggest market last gen and they never tried to expand their business.
