Sony reacted and took out PS Eye to be cheaper. But their future is what, more PS3.5 games? 5 years from now I really feel PS will be in trouble as a brand. It will not have moved forward. |
You should worry more about the Xbox brand, investors want to kill it, the new CEO doesnt like it, it'd be bad for the industry if MS decided to quit from the gaming business, it's a real possibility.
Sony had a clear vision for the PS4: it was set out to be a gaming machine first, they delivered with the best hardware 399 dollars could buy. It doesn't need to do much else, voice control, camera etc, these are all gimmicks that are a nice little extra on the PS4 and even work really good too, (Playroom streaming was a huge success), but the console isn't build around it so it doesnt have to compromise on the thing it does best: gaming. It doesnt need to do more just like I dont expect my smartphone suddenly to evolve into a different line of electronics.
MS' vision and messaging is very confusing. TV, sports media, features and apps that only matter to Americans, online DRM, no used games, all the 180s since then, all in one entertainment system yada yada, they forgot about the gamer and thats why PS4 is selling more, Sony's messaging was strong with the gamers. To sum up: one company listened to their customers.
Hubris is haunting MS, they acted like Sony in 2006 and MS hasnt even won a console gen.
