Capcom: DLC Accounts For 15-16% Of Packaged Game Sales

As reported earlier in February, Capcom’s DLC and digital download business is growing. Digital downloads of full games have more than doubled over the last one year, while DLC sales are up 10% over expectations.

In a recent Q&A with investors and analysts, Capcom provided a little more data on both these fronts. Specifically, Capcom say that DLC accounts for about 15-16% of sales in the consumer (packaged) games business. Capcom believe this ratio will continue to increase.

Meanwhile, while downloads of full games are on the uptick, Capcom say that the difference in profitability between retail sales and download sales is negligible at the moment.

That is too close to Falcom for my comfort. You will call Capcom "Crapcom" from now on, and that is final.

Yeah.. but this can't be recieved good with the retail partners..  Sony/MS/Nintendo will be pushing digital more as they earn more money with it..  while the publisher don't really care.. but retail will not be happy if Sony/MS/Nintendo snatches sales from them..

I will never get why this is such a bad thing. On PC everybody is digital(physical releases are close to wiiu ones), and not body seems to really care. Its the same game, for less. I support their decision.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

Damn, Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo are getting some serious cash from digital then, wow.

Except when it's not for less?

The un-mentioned aspect here is used game sales and game rentals, both of which digital downloads hedge out, leading to more sales/profits.

Ninetendo's actually loosing money (I know Sony is too, but their gaming division is profitable)
